The mixture of its own lore and folktakes is enthralling. There are even mechas, and a ship made from ancestral souls (landships)! I was excited to turn the next page, and the whole vibes business made me smile. 

The artwork is very fun, colorful, and expressive; very stylized. Zhara felt like she was just regulated to the love interest role. The other characters were much more interesting.  I didn't completely understand everything going on, but I would definitely read more. Overall, the reading experience was very CHAOTIC.

Slow-paced and plot-driven. The characters felt younger than what they were. I didn't think Koffi and Ekon had chemistry; they had more friend vibes. 

But the atmosphere of the Greater Jungle was excellent, eldritch, violent, and mysterious. Very imaginative! A great debut though it's long-winded.

Well, it was okay. Michaela "Mickie" was overly naïve and desperate over a man. She was way too accommodating to sour puss Riley. But I liked that she came from a happy family who loved her. It was unique to see a twenty-four year old who still mostly lived with her parents. I also loved learning about her job; it sounded fascinating.

The mystery felt fast-paced in the accusations and suspicious behavior, but the other elements felt so slow. At times, it felt like the story would never end. As it dragged on so did my enthusiasm. Gentrification also played a big part in the background. The romance here was crusty dishrag dry. It felt like it was here as an obligation.

I don't have much experience with mysteries that aren't from the perspective of a detective, so I was oblivious to whatever common mystery/thriller tropes. But I guessed the Tyler Perry twist and the killer but it took me a while, so there's some praise in order.

Ending spoiler:

Nadia's reasoning makes me itch. she started killing vulnerable women because she was a boring plain jane. make it make sense.

I loved it. Beautifully-drawn and well-paced. 

When beating the bad guy isn't enough... Things aren't just black or white.

 Nonsensical and fasted-paced but most importantly it’s FUN! I liked the humor here, so I enjoyed reading this. How readers receive the humor will vary their enjoyment.   

Cute. I wish it could've been longer to really delve into anything. This felt more like a poem for Acevedo's (future?) children than natural hair in general. There's some mention of Dominican hair salon's popularity/notoriety for making any kink bone-straight.

 Dreadfully bland with little to no characterization. 

 A bit run of the mill, but it's cute.
