I like this series, and I dig the ink pen art style. I love superheroes/people with powers in general, and this does it in a fun, clever way though a lot of the female characters are pretty bland. This comic is older, so there are a few things that make me roll my eyes. The humor’s usually lighthearted, but the action can get vicious and gritty when it wants too. Either way, I’m excited to see how the story progresses.

This started off very well, but it ultimately couldn’t hold my interest in the end. The plot’s serviceable with some steampunk qualities, and foreshadowing is carefully planned. But the two leads didn’t have enough chemistry to carry the story for me, so I felt bored throughout the latter half of their journey.

Ending spoiler:
whoo, toward the end Tai turned into a sad sack. How much sadness will you put on one character? Still, I liked his relationship with the viceroy the most. It speaks to how even if you try not to you still may love problematic people (and usually they’re your parents).

Still good, this volume plays with more morals & ethics. Do the ends justify the means? SN: I always find it funny they never specify where Eve is? It's always just generic Africa, but, of course, it's with "emaciated people." If you don't mention colonialism and imperialism, etc, it feels shallow

Also, the comic's getting more gory too. I don't care for bloodbaths tho

Incredibly bleak and dark (even a kid gets mangled). Blood and gore isn't endearing to me at all, but I still want to see how this series progresses. I really had to look away for this volume. I was wincing through every page. I think this is the most violent (superhero) comic I've legit ever read, just nonstop bloodbath. If they wanted to cement the Viltrumites as the bloodthirsty warriors they are, they wholeheartedly succeeded.

SN: I love the moral grayness of Cecil.

I'm really glad this arc is over. I couldn't stomach anymore of the grotesque violence-- there's just an extent where it gets too excessive for me. The conclusion subverted expectations too.

Anyway, I'm eager to see what happens next.
I'm conflicted with the Nolan/Debbie relationship. A part of me wants them back together, but there's no way in the world they should. Some things are unforgivable. I wished she could've been happy with another man.

Expectations officially subverted
