It took me a bit to get into the book but once I was there I was onboard and determined to enjoy it – which thankfully, I did. It’s an interesting concept and I don’t think I’ve seen one like it before! I requested almost as soon as I saw “heist” 😆. But of course the book’s much more than that. It’s a story about family, about reconnecting, about finding strength in yourself. Which are all things I like! I thought the inclusion of all the gods was interesting and unique even though there are a lot of gods across all the Fantasy books.
I’m definitely going to reread this when the second book comes around, just to be reintroduced to the world again. I liked the politics of the book and how it can definitely be a bad thing. And, of course, how refusing people access to materials only makes them want it more. I liked how Long infused real world politics into a fantasy element and made it work. Plus she balanced her characters and plot neatly – which I can’t always say for every fantasy author.
I did like Kitt, Lyta’s brother, more than her at the start. I wasn’t so convinced of her when I began. But then as I carried on she showed herself to me and now I can’t wait to carry on. I think I liked her most when she interacted with the captain, Sylvian Chant. They have a history together which of course, made me want to know all about that. I’ve found that I like second chance romances so I seek them out wherever I can – most of the time I enjoy them!
