This was an interesting futuristic type novel. the concept behind it was absolutely fantastic, the world building was solid and the technology was very well thought out and applied.

My problem is the length. It’s so long that I was constantly finding my mind drifting. Basically it was longer than it needed to be.

I got the audiobook through NetGalley and this likely contributed to my wandering mind - I find it easier to wander with an audio vs digital or physical, but it usually isn’t a problem. It definitely was in this case.

3.5⭐️ - great story, less than great execution.

Following the story of Aiden and Thayer we find ourselves in the midst of characters you’ve likely met before in other books from the author. I love it. We already have a sense for the characters and the world they live in, but the story is entirely different.

Thayer is struggling with liking Aiden, and his dad isn’t helping with his homophobic ideals. Thayer knows he’s supposed to like and date girls but he just doesn’t. He wants Aiden.

Aiden isn’t out officially. While he’s sure everyone knows, he hasn’t said it. He’s crushing on Thayer, the very straight jock, and knows he needs to get over it. The problem is, he can’t.

When college (or uni) rolls around, they find each other and dramatics ensure (in true young love fashion). It’s a dramatically sweet love story!

We head back to Evelyn in Baneford, picking up basically where book on left off. I appreciate this since the story itself wrapped up in book one but the lives of the characters were still open for interpretation. This allows us a look into those lives and how the past impacts them.

Then shit hits the fan again because Baneford is a supernatural hub. This time instead of a malevolent spirit, we have something shady going on with the development company wishing to buy and build in Baneford at the old Dyeworks building.

This story is considerably faster paced than the first - and as I’m in camp the fewer words to get to the point the better - this makes me very happy. This book definitely got to the point and did it quickly without sacrificing anything in the story. It was really good.

4⭐️

I really enjoyed the first book in this series and I was dying to know what happens next - however, this installment didn’t hit the mark for me.

I received the audiobook through NetGalley and I don’t know what it was but this just didn’t do it for me. They narrators were fine, but I didn’t care for the way their parts were pieced together - it felt a bit disjointed and certainly not conversational as meant.

The story was okay. It was a solid continuation but that’s all - nothing amazing happened and like I said the narration just really didn’t hit for me.

I really did enjoy this and I’m happy to have book 2 in hand already. The story left us guessing at the end - while the main story wrapped up, the characters lives had unanswered questions. I’m ready to keep going!

True crime and hauntings? Yes please.

I love true crime and real life haunting stories. While that’s a morbid thing to enjoy, I find it interesting to learn about.

This is a light hearted compilation of both true crime and ghost stories in the form of a “road trip” with our authors. Each stop is elaborated on in the podcast hosted by the authors. It’s also narrated by the authors and I love that. It’s especially nice since they are podcasters and this makes this book have a more conversational style rather than your typical nonfiction style.

I was aware of many of these hauntings and true crime stories and I enjoyed the way that they were introduced and the flow from one story to another was nearly flawless.

I feel like this author is just one of those that can do no wrong for me. The books are short and fast paced but have plenty of time to fill out the story with suspense and really give us readers what we want.

Or what I want anyway - which is a good story that just gets to the point!

That’s what this is. When a new neighbor moves in on the street, the nosy neighbors can’t wait to meet them. Soon, there is so much construction that the current residents feel something is going on. When they’re invited to a dinner party, everything starts to go wrong.

Believe me, those 1⭐️ reviews you see have a point - but honestly - thrillers are like this. The past will always come back to bite you and holding a grudge won’t work in your favor either.

I really enjoyed it. Most of the story takes place during this dinner party and I think it’s worth your time if you’re looking for a short, fast paced, suspenseful novel!

This was so good! When it first started I was unsure but soon the pacing sped up and it took off!

This is a perfectly enjoyable magical realism type story. The lore involved in this is so interesting and I have no complaints. It felt “real” for a fantasy type story and it was easy to keep up with the characters once the story got going. The build to get there was a bit much but in the end, this is definitely a novel worth your time!

Thanks to NetGalley for the copy!

This thriller definitely leans to the procedural but not in a way that made the story drag. It took me awhile to finish, but mostly because this is a heavy book. I had the audio and I couldn’t just binge it - it’s too heavy - so I took my time and read other books while decompressing.

This one feels like it’s everywhere but it comes around full circle in the most interesting way. The cases don’t feel connected at all which makes it feel all over the place but once the pieces fall into place it’s a well rounded very interesting story!

The narrator did an amazing job with the suspense this book included. This can be hit or miss for me many times but this one did a great job.

It’s a pretty basic fantasy story however I find myself invested and I’m intrigued to see what’s next.
