This was such a fast paced and hilarious little rom com. I started it around bed time and it became a book I stayed up to finish - unintentionally - it just happened.
It was all laughs, there were plenty of heavier subjects like mental health and doctors losing their patients and these heavy subjects were handled with the care that was needed. It felt “real” if you will. It felt like an actual person trying to deal with their issues while trying not to drown in them. I appreciate that, because at the very least I’ve been there and I’m sure we all have.
The humor really hooked me though. The budding romance was second fiddle to the hilarity that was the storyline for me. I needed all the laughs and this delivered.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for the audiobook!

This. Book. Is. Long.
It’s so freaking long and for no reason…at least not one I found. If you’ve been looking at my reviews for awhile though, you’ll find that I like there to be a reason for all of the words and if I can’t find one then I’m not a fan - but I don’t even think that’s the main thing here.
I went in expecting magical realism with a YA setting and characters. While technically I got this, it was more hormonal teenagers and equally hormonal acting adults than just young adults and that caused the excessive wordiness - the hormones did the talking.
The representation was here, but I felt it was almost overshadowed by the a lot of POVs and on audio it was hard to keep up with. I’m sad - I really thought I’d like this a lot. I just don’t. I think maybe I’m not the target audience. It happens!

This series is absolutely adorable. I really don’t have much to complain about with it. We continue to follow the path of our misfit supernatural beings as they prepare for the wedding of the New Orleans vampire king to his mate - who also happens to be a misfit thanks to the vampire who sired her doing so incorrectly. The cast from book one returns and we get a glimpse into possible future storylines as well.
This series is light, funny and fast paced. It’s a great palette cleanser between heavier books or great whenever.
“You can’t control what happens in life, but you do have the power to choose how you react.”
While there are many things in this book that I don’t necessarily agree with - this is something that I love. It’s absolutely true that many things are out of our control, but our personal reactions and responses are 100% ours. If we can’t control anything else, we can control our reactions and this is the most powerful statement in times of struggle for many.
Overall this book covered a path to self empowerment or Me Power. It didn’t acknowledge the existence of mental illnesses that make it difficult to place the focus needed to complete these tasks (or if it did, it was overshadowed and I honestly cannot remember it). I do wish that because emphasis on our frame of mind was placed that there would have also been emphasis on the struggles that affect the way our brains process information. There were also a bunch of stories that, while interesting, I felt took away from the story itself. If we’re learning to “tap into” this Me Power, I don’t know why we’re reading stories about the authors teachers or famous people - I just didn’t find this to be necessary or completely on topic. I’m pretty picky about that though, so grain of salt and all that.
Thanks to LoveBooksTours and NetGalley for the ebook!

This was pretty average. I was hoping for some juicy crazy something to come up but it was a pretty tame read. I definitely wasn’t hooked at any point, didn’t connect with any of the characters and while I wasn’t disappointed, I certainly didn’t love the way it unfolded. The multiple timelines and dual POV didn’t help this either. With such short chapters and the POV as well as the timeline being ever changing, I can’t say I’m a fan.

Another winner from Kiersten Modglin! I think it’s safe to say I am a life long fan!
This is a fast paced story with a slow burn. It takes forever to figure out what’s going on and where it’s going but it does it in a way that is crazy fast paced and doesn’t feel slow like other slow burns. It feels like a contraction to say out loud (or type up - whatever), but it works!
I really enjoy the storyline of the rich family with the BIG secret - but what is the big secret? You have to follow the twists and turn to find out! I love this story. Perfect amount of suspense and mystery all tucked into a short and fast paced story.

Middle grade fiction can really pack a punch!
When a big move creates some big feelings for Lindsay, she finds herself in the middle of a new dance studio, but something isn’t quite right about it. Little by little she figures it out, hopefully in time to save her sister from the danger she’s found herself in!
This is a story about the power of jealousy, greed and love. It’s many lessons wrapped up in a perfect chapter book with magical music boxes!
This is a quick read with everything needed to make a solid middle grade novel. The chapters are the perfect length for that age group and they’re each packed with enough action and/or mystery to keep the readers attention. I really enjoyed it.

I wanted to like this. It had everything it needed to pique my interest and keep me invested but in the end - it just didn’t do it for me.
I received the audio through NetGalley and I thank them for the opportunity to listen to it. The narrator was great, but this just ended up not being for me.

I want to preface this by saying that I am a hardcore believer in the supernatural, while also firmly in the camp of science. Contradiction? Probably. But this book - this book gets it.
What are we feeling when there’s nothing there? What are we hearing when no one is there? Who are we talking to when the conversation is in our heads? Is it some form of psychopathy or is there another explanation? This books takes every possible explanation into consideration and spells it out. It’s not judgmental, it presents facts and theories and it does it in a way that keeps it interesting.
I received the audiobook through NetGalley and the narrator was perfect. With a soothing voice this topic is presented perfectly in this format. Definitely recommend.
