This was an interesting investigative-ish story, even if it is REALLY predictable.
We follow Sawyer, whose sister has recently been found dead in her bathtub of apparent suicide. Sawyer isn’t buying it and is determined to find her sisters killer. Since her sister, a writer, was actively writing a book on a true crime case, Sawyer decides that Willa must have discovered something that got her killed and sets out to figure everything out on her own.
I figured out where this was going really really early. Almost the second it was brought up I called it. However, there were bits I didn’t figure out, but I’d honestly stopped really thinking about it and was just along for the ride by the time the ending rolled around. I enjoyed the narration for this one, it gave us the feeling of being along for the ride with our main character and it was good.
I think anyone that enjoys books involving unlikely detectives will enjoy this one. It follows that usual line, with the addition of uncovering all kinds of secrets along the way. Worth the read I think.
fast-paced
If you’ve read the Melody of the Seasons series, you’ll know and remember Mel and Judd. Those two star in this series and we get a deeper look into both of their pasts as well as watch their relationship unfold in front of us.
I won’t lie, this felt really rushed. Having read the previously mentioned series, I did know some of the things in this one already, but we see it through different eyes. It seemed to be Mel and Judd during the times we remember from Damion and Lexi’s series, just sped up and then we get more. The more is where the pacing seemed to even out for me.
I enjoyed getting to know about the pasts of these two characters and I’m curious to see where their future heads.

I love the way S.A. Cosby spins a story! The way it unfolds is always such a journey and I’m not left wanting for suspense!
I surprisingly enjoyed the procedural-like story of this one. While that isn’t always my thing, this one does it really well. We get the emotions and the suspense this type of story will require to be good.
The narrator, as always, was absolutely fantastic. I absolutely love the voice and the tones used really bring the characters to life and allow for the story to feel more real. I appreciate this in any story. Definitely recommend.
I was definitely unprepared for the intentional killing of animals for dissection in this book. I even went back and reread the synopsis and there’s nothing in it that would lead me to think this would be part of this book. Even after this, I continued the book because it was an audiobook that I received through NetGalley and I wanted to give it a fair shot.
The premise behind this was solid. It’s set in the 1800’s and definitely reads as historical fiction/mystery. It was really interesting to dive into the investigation during this timeframe, but overall I can’t get over the killing the cats thing.
So the story was pretty good, the narrator was amazing but some of the content itself just wasn’t for me.
I was already into this before I realized it was technically a book 2, but this was not a problem at all. While there may be some character backstory I missed out on, enough information was provided for me to keep up with not only the case, but the characters story as well.
I really enjoy stories like this. It’s a female “investigator” in a time when that was definitely man’s work. Plus the case itself?? Killing with flowers?? I’m here for it. That was such an interesting storyline!
I received the audiobook from NetGalley and the narration was spot on for this book. It made it an immersive experience and I love that.

I’m not really sure what I just read, but I do know that I really enjoyed it!
This is a very sci-fi-esque story in which we follow a group of people living on Prospera. In this land, people live for quite a long time and once they being to either degenerate or if they choose to, the head to what is called the nursery where they’re regenerated and come back with no memories as a teen to live another full life. We follow Proctor Bennett through this utopia until one day he starts having issues with his mind. This is when the story really picks up.
I have found that I find sci-fi books to be harder to predict because they could really go any which way. This one I honestly had no idea where it was going to go from one chapter to the next. It was a ride. I really enjoyed it though!

This series was quite the ride! It was a solid fantasy series with enough intricacy for fantasy lovers but not over the top either, so it isn’t confusing if you’re just starting fantasy.
Initially I didn’t realize this was part of a series, and I’m glad I realized it before starting this because I would have been completely lost! This is definitely not a stand alone and should be read with the others to fully understand what’s happening.
I received an audiobook copy of this one through NetGalley and it was great. The narration is fantastic and really brings these characters to life. The emotions are there and I absolutely loved it.
This was my least favorite of the three, but I still recommend it. 3.5 rounded up.

When I first dove into this story I’ll admit I did it without reading the synopsis. I love reading about shipwrecks, even though the stories are usually quite sad. Once I made it to the 30%-ish mark I realized this wasn’t quite what I bargained for and read the synopsis. I then assumed it would be shipwrecks mixed with personal stories but it ended up being the opposite. More personal, less shipwreck. I think I would have enjoyed it more if that had been what I was expecting.
Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of shipwreck spoken of in this book and it’s quite informative, but after a while the personal stories began to overshadow this and that wasn’t what I expected. Still recommend, just keep in mind that while there are shipwrecks, that’s not exactly the main idea.
