Having been on the fence about The Night Swim hit but enjoying other books from this author I wasn’t sure how this was going to land for me. I will say I enjoyed it more than The Night Swim, but less than the books by this author that are not connected with this series.

I’m going with 3.5 rounded up because it had its moments. There were definitely times that I was incredibly invested in the story but there were also times when I found myself rolling my eyes and waiting for it to end. It was back and forth for me on where it would land on my personal scale of enjoyability - which fits perfect with how I felt about the first book in the series.

Having enjoyed a previous story from this author I was really looking forward to this story. Don’t let the three stars fool you, it was good and well written but my problem was it didn’t hold my attention well. I found my mind wandering frequently while listening to the audiobook and I couldn’t concentrate on the ebook at all.

The story itself has solid bones and it should have worked for me but it didn’t. With the type of books and writing styles I enjoy, this should have hit the mark but I can’t place my finger on what exactly didn’t.

This was a heck of a story and I honestly never really knew where it was going. I knew where we would end up, but the ride to get there was wild.

I received both an ebook and audiobook copy through NetGalley and I definitely enjoyed it. The narrator for the audiobook was fantastic and I was invested from the start. I absolutely had to know where we were going and how we’d get there. I listened to this nonstop and finished in a day. It was great.

I really loved this story! While I cannot comment on the representation of face blindness, it felt like we got into the characters head and providing it’s an accurate depiction, I feel like I have some kind of understanding into something that I didn’t even know about before this book!

I really loved the whole story and the cute little twist toward the end was everything. I absolutely adored it. I loved the artistic nature of our main character, the family drama, her personal struggles, doctor/therapist visits - it felt so real. I’m here for it. I absolutely loved it. Even the “villain” was perfection.

I had too many eye rolls for it to be 5, but it’s so close!

I definitely enjoyed this decently dark romance story. It’s got its moments of dark but I’ve definitely read darker. The spice is on point and meshed into the storyline really well. I found it intriguing to watch the relationship unfold the way it did and it ended on a cliffhanger so there’s plenty more to come! I’m excited to find out what comes next in this story!

This was not my favorite. It took a long time for me to get into this and by the time I was invested it was pretty much over. The premise behind it was promising and it had potential. I’m not sure if this is an issue with the story itself or maybe the delivery. The singular narrator for the dual timeline made it difficult to keep up with on audio. Sometimes I just couldn’t remember which timeline we were in. That’s a me problem really, but it did make this less enjoyable for me.

The end really saved this one. It starts out so slow and almost all over the place. It took me awhile to actually pick up on the thriller part of this book because it was just everywhere all at once. At about the halfway mark, it gets pretty good and begins to sort itself out which makes it easier to keep up with and a lot more interesting!

I really thought I wouldn’t enjoy this but I’m sad to report that I just didn’t. While I did enjoy the narration, the story itself left a lot to be desired for me. The thing is, it’s just boring. It’s pretty long, and it really didn’t need to be. When it came down to it, I’m not even sure I knew what this was about while I was listening because it seemed to be both everywhere and nowhere at the same time.

This definitely had potential but in the end it wasn’t for me.

Ah dark romance but make it an audiobook? Yes please! I love the dual narrators that romance audiobooks seem to always have when there are multiple POVs because it really lets us immerse ourselves into the story and we never have to guess or try to remember which POV it is at that moment. I love it.

When it comes to dark romance, it can be hit or miss for me. It’s usually trigger heavy (this is no exception) and sometimes there isn’t enough plot for it to be a solid read (plenty of plot here though). When I received this audio through NetGalley, I was thrilled to be able to give it a try and it did not disappoint. I loved this from start to finish (and all the finishes in between).

It’s a brothers best friend but with a dark twist and a cliffhanger ending. This book is wild and I plan to continue with the series because I need to know what happens next! Definitely recommend to dark romance readers!
