This book took a long time to get into. I thought about putting it down a few times, but I heard it’s a slow slow burn, so
I made myself I power through. AND OMG . The story picked up around page 160 and was a fun ride straight through to the end.

Will definitely pick up the sequel.

Read this book.
It doesn’t matter if you already think you’re an intersectional feminist. READ THIS BOOK.
This was fun and super creepy. It took a few chapters to get into, but once I was in, I was IN.
Horror comedy romance mashup? I’m into it! This book flew by. Easy, fun read.
SO DISAPPOINTED. Ugh, I want to love this book so much, but I need to put it down. I got to page 52 before I dipped out. I can't get on board with the idea of killing animals for magic & prophecy making. It really takes me out of the book and I absolutely have no interest in reading about animal mutilation.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death
This book was SO SO much fun! I love the way she wove the worlds together. I might actually need to go read the other SJM book that I've been hesitant to read.
That said, a few non spoilery thoughts:
- It could have definitely been AT LEAST 200 pages shorter. Editing is your friend, SJM.
- I did not give ONE SHIT about Ithan’s story line. Truly unnecessary.
This book was adorable! Such a cozy, witchy romance. I'll definitely pick up the next in the series.
This book was fantastic. I was hooked from the very first page when the main character wakes up with a severed crows head in her hands that she brought back from her dream. This story is creepy, beautiful, sad, and so so well written.
Basically this review sums it up: "A satisfying slow burn that explores loss, generational trauma, and violence through a narrative that is chilling yet, at its center, burning with a defiant resilience" - Electric Literature.
I need more books, Jessica!

hmm.. so this book was interesting, but kind of difficult to follow at times. There are a few plot points that I'm still struggling to connect.
ALSO - some of the author's word choice was suspect (the use of the word gypsy, and then a WEIRD WEIRD inappropriate reference about the Tutsi genocide)
