Though I can never get into the shopahlic books, I love all of the stand-alones by Sophie Kinsella. Was this predictable at times? Yes. Was it cheesy at times? Yes. Was it the book I needed at this moment? Also yes.
In a year where I am feeling major burnout myself in my own job, this book came at the perfect time. It was enjoyable, the main characters were well written, and though miscommunication pokes its awful tropey self in, it's so small it didn't bother me. I read this book in a day as I found the story easy to relate to, as I think many people will nowadays.

This one just flew. The pages turned and my interest was peaked. The ending was fine.

If you like complex police procedurals, then this is the book for you. Cleeves has a masterful way of writing a story with many pieces that all come into place. I struggle a bit at times with the pace of her stories, as I find they are sometimes a bit bogged down. But the way she is able to tie it all together with a completely satisfying ending is what keeps me coming back to this series.

Love the author, but this one is just a no go. 150 pages in and nothing has happened. Why are we on this journey? What do the stats mean? I honestly just don’t care to read another 250 to find out.
Interesting premise. Execution was fine. Ending was a bit all over.
I honestly just need to put this aside for now. The story is starting to feel a bit drawn out. And right now I don't have it in me. I have renewed it twice from the library and have not picked it back up.

Though I am not much of a romance reader, Josie Silver is an auto read author for me. Coming from an Italian family, I loved reading about Gio's family and their interactions with each other, as well as, Iris. The same could be said for her upstairs neighbors/bosses/landlords/BFFs. I enjoyed their characters and what they brought to the story as secondary characters.
I did enjoy reading about Iris' life and how she got to this moment. The backstory of her mom's life and all the events leading to the present were also well done. My biggest qualm was Iris' ability to stick her head in the sand when it came to the lives of others. While she had been through a lot, her choices about the gelato recipe was kind of just weird. I also do not love the miscommunication trope and that was prevalent in this story.

Absolutely amazing debut novel. This generational story is heart wrenching, but beautifully written. I devoured this book. Not sure why it took me so long to pick it up!
