I put this down the first time I picked it up just because of how much strain it put on my eyes to try and read the font. Even once I pulled it up on a computer screen I found it difficult to read.

This story is a trip, not a bad trip, but a trip none the less. But it has it's own wholesome level of comradery.

I will say that this was both more graphic and sexual then I had any reason to think it would be.

Pixies, the Sixties, You've Got Me Hooked Now!

I grabbed this book based on the cover and title alone. You can't make a cover that pulls at my Nostalgia of Winx Club and not expect me to.
Also, Pixies, mischievous fairies that are known for frightening maidens and leading travelers astray. It sounded like a great time!
AND I WAS RIGHT!!!!

It is GAY, AND IT SLAPS!!!!

Both stories are fascinating, but Annan's ends up being the darker.
The subtle world-building throughout the stories is terrific. I wanted to learn more and more about this world as I continued to read.

If you enjoyed Carnaval Row, you would also enjoy this work. It is a little lighter overall, but it has similar themes, and more than those, I found myself finding parallels to the show.

CW: Amputation, Assault, Attempted Sexual Assault, Death, Drugs, Homophobia, Hostages, Kidnapping, Murder, Nudity, Racism, Torture, Violence, and Xenophobia.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

This was disappointing, mostly because it felt like someone took a short information piece and tried to make it into a graphic novel.
Rather then the art adding to the narrative, I often felt like it was directly impeding my ability to comfortably read and process the information that was trying to be presented.
So much so that come the end of the book, I felt like the information I had gained was minimal.

Sometimes I pick up books solely because it's something a teenage Sam would have sought out and read. So being that there was a time when I consumed EVERY "May/December" Romance Manga I could get my hands on when I came across one that didn't look too terrible, I acquiesced and read some of it.

Characters: Akira...feels one-dimensional in many ways... Nothing much more then than what we see in the synopsis... A girl (literally) who is in love with her Boss...
We could make a leap and say Akira is in the throws of Grief and Depression due to her crippling injury, which took away her passion for running. So she instead turned her fervor on the next thing that shone even the slightest bit of light into her life, Boss/Kondo.
To make it worse, Boss doesn't have much personality, either. Nothing that makes you as a reader go, OH, this is why she is interested in him.

Even if Akira were ten years older, it would feel like this relationship was inappropriate.

The one thing I enjoyed about this manga was the scene where they both stand under a tree and suddenly Kondo feels young again, like he could be young and in love again. It would have been charming in any other Manga; it just couldn't hit the same in this manga.

Would I recommend it?
No. There ends up being nothing super appealing about it.

I found this book under self help, and I would not say that, descriptor fits this book.
Trauma and Uprooting is a great historical look at some of the most traumatic events to affect people of the last century, while also detailing the changes we've seen in psychological care.

It is an interesting read but definitely further from self help then it seemed by the description.

It's Gay and . . . it hits different?

This book consumed so much of my thought space until early this evening when I finished it.

Some parts felt all too relevant to the work of January 6th, 2021. and I can't decide how I feel about this depiction of what boils down to the "radical right because while they are shown to be a danger, in some ways, it felt like we were making light of a severe problem.

The world built by Buchbinder feels so real, and I was left wanting to know more about this society and other colonies that theoretically exist. There is so much happening that it drags you in...

The come-up is startlingly quick and leaves you with more questions than answers about just about everything we are shown. But I suppose not knowing is its own act of patience.."

While the stories were fairly interesting overall, it suffered heavily from "Same Face Syndrome" one feminine, one masculine. Paired with a lot of basically naked women, even in situations where the lack of clothing or the tightness of what little they are wearing doesn't make sense.

Incredibly dull to read, and I found it hard to stay engaged with for an extended amount of time.
I left wishing I'd instead been handing a nonfiction book, rather then a piece of historical fiction

I found this so incredibly dull, that I found myself nodding off at several points, and my thoughts consistently wandering away from what I was trying to read. The impact some scenes should have had, meaning that nothing at any point left you interested.

Beautiful, Elegant, Morally Grey Disney Princess + Himbo, White Knight with a Tragic Back Story!

This book was very interesting from beginning to end, and both main characters are compelling and intriguing.
Paired with an incredibly interesting world.
I was not ready for this book to to end, especially with the cliff hanger we are left on.
