adventurous mysterious fast-paced

Towards the end I got bored waiting for the traveling to end and I just wanted them to get to where they were going so there could be more interesting plot twists. This book was mostly just world-building and explaining the politics in more detail.

This started out a bit slowly but picked up the pace very well. Had me hooked from the beginning, though. There were plenty of mysteries to unravel!
funny relaxing medium-paced

Kind of meh and nothing new. I don't understand why so many people were so into this.
adventurous emotional medium-paced

Maybe a little less interesting than the previous books.

Why haven't I read this before? This is amazing.

Also, towards the ending the authors managed to put some very simple things into words that made me cry. So I guess I know what I'll be reading the rest of the week.
lighthearted fast-paced

Kind of insta-lovey and cliche but honestly, I was expecting that so I guess I liked it. This feels like a series I'll enjoy for a time but definitely not for over 15+ books.

This series is such a solid fantasy that I would definitely recommend to fans of An Ember in the Ashes or Throne of Glass.

My biggest pet peeve with this is that I'm not sure if this is YA or not. I think it falls somewhere between YA and NA.

I was confused about why everyone was so in love with this book but then I read more and now I understand. I'd say the first third of this was very "meh". Pretty standard fantasy with a bit of a romance.

The romance isn't anything new. I've read a lot of these tropes in other books before and this romance wasn't anything ground breaking. But I do eat it up every time anyway.

I liked the alchemy and the magic system, it was a bit different from other fantasy books.

A really solid first book and I can't wait for a sequel!
