cunningempress's Reviews (526)

Thank you NetGalley and Starwater Press for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I had so much fun reading this! I got to giggle and roll my eyes and gasp in shock.

This series reminds me a lot of [b:From Blood and Ash|52831200|From Blood and Ash (Blood and Ash, #1)|Jennifer L. Armentrout|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1585598504l/52831200._SX50_.jpg|78982151] and some aspects of it remind me of [b:Gild|56483061|Gild (The Plated Prisoner, #1)|Raven Kennedy|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1609357436l/56483061._SY75_.jpg|86456918] (The Plated Prisoner series).

At times the relationship between the main characters felt a little fake (and I don't mean the fake dating trope), sometimes I felt like the MMC wasn't himself and he was saying this he didn't really mean. Their chemistry was kind of on and off. (But I'm a sucker for a book like this so I didn't let it bother too much.)

The worldbuilding and myths and legends got more fleshed out in this book. In the first book it seemed like a lot but now that the central pieces are becoming more apparent it's easier to follow. I still feel like there's a lot of material for future books to develop, though, and I think that's a good thing (at least if there's going to be several more books).

I hope the next books would focus more on the lore and the worldbuilding than the romance. Morgan has such a journey ahead of her, just learning about herself that I would love to learn more about the world through her rather than the MMC just giving her information as the story progresses.

The last third of the book was AMAZING! So much happened and I had to keep reading. I eventually went to bed at 3AM because I couldn't put it down. I really badly want all the ARC's of this series. This is a perfect book to read in a day or two (or four if you have to work). Ugh, I just love this so much despite it's flaws. It's got so much promise and I had so much fun.

Please never read this. I lost brain cells.

I don't usually read this kind of books and I really hate to give a good review to Colleen Hoover but I was so throughly entertainted and I couldn't put this down that I think I need to give this one 5-stars.

However this is going to be the only CoHo book I will ever read.

So many storylines and characters. I don't think I could've kept up if I hadn't seen the movie before. I'm sure I still missed a lot. Don't know if I'll ever read the rest. I will if I can get my hands on the audiobooks.

I liked this at first but then I didn't.

The setting is intriguing. The vampire court is exciting. At first. Then it's just stupid and stupidly dramatic.

It was hard to keep up with the enemies and the friends because it seemed like the sides were changing ALL THE TIME. This made the main characters seem really naive. They trusted people without so much as a second thought. It was annoying as hell.

It's also weird how this young adult but somehow I managed to find scenes that seemed weirdly intimate and kinky. Those scenes felt like they belonged to another book.

The further I read, the more annoyed I was and I ended up just skimming the ending because I couldn't care less what happened.

Why does anyone bother with the Shadow and Bone series when there's this???!!!

This is way better than S&B and I feel robbed now because I was told I shouldn't read this before S&B. S&B is shit. It's way too overhyped. This on the other hand, this I understand being so hyped. You see, this is actually good. It's great even.

The plot is interesting, I could read 100 pages in one sitting, I stayed up till 5AM last night because I was so into this. The characters are interesting and I actually have favorites.

This series is so much better than Shadow and Bone and I love the characters! I love all the twists and turns their scheming!

Next time I see YA on my TBR it better be AMAZING or I'm just gonna skip it.
