I REALLY enjoyed this.
I absolutely love Jude. I loved the way she didn't let her fear rule her even though she knew it was there. But also how cunning and intelligent she was. I really really love that she found a way to make the world hers.
I'm really hype for the Wicked King. I have HOPES FOR STEAMY STUFF OK. I get the feeling that this series is going to be something epic.

where do I even start to explain how much I loved this book or this series?

There are just so many things I love about it. The writing style, the characters, the story teller narrative. The world, the strategy. Just everything.
I think what hit me most was the mc having to face loss and grief throughout the book and deal with it while still trying to fight for her life. But my favorite parts were the stories. They were so beautifully done.
Alwyn Hamilton closed out this trilogy so so perfectly. I absolutely loved every second of this book. It was so complex and intriguing and I want everybody to read it.

OKAY. WOW.

This book was huge and important. Aside from being wildly entertaining, this book touched on so many important subjects, such as colorism and police brutality.
While maintaining a traditional fantasy vibe, it did a lot to break away from the traditional fantasy cycle. I loved loved loved the all black cast of characters and the non traditional settings, as well as the spin put on magic. Tomi's world building was phenomenal and I can't wait to see more of it. (Also more curls=stronger magic is my favorite thing okay.)
I just really loved this book. I cannot wait for book 2.

ngl, I skimmed through a lot of this.

I read the first one last year and found it to be a very uncomfortable experience but I didn't hate it.

So I bought the second one and put off reading it for about a year. Aannnddd I'm underwhelmed. But I will say its likely because I don't remember a lot of the end of the first book. I dont understand how Damen went from getting whipped to lusting after Laurent.

This one was definitely a lot less disturbing than the first. There was a whole lot more political intrigue. That was fun.
The battle scenes were confusingly written. And some scenes seemed to jump around or repeat themselves and have different outcomes-- at one point Damen and Laurent go to meet with some mountain clanswomen and Damen has sex with a few of them (which is totally normal and realistic ya know?) and then the next time they meet the head clanswoman and she's like "ayy Damen join in on our orgy" Laurent freaks out like he didn't give Damen permission to sex up a bunch of women a few pages before??? idk

Overall I didnt hate it and I'm even intrigued enough to buy the third so

I actually loved this one, which was a surprise after only liking Caraval. I found Tella to be a more compelling character who brought a lot more to the table. This story was filled with lore and stakes and romance. It was honestly great.

Wow I did not like this

4.5 stars

The beginning was slow and some of the flashbacks felt unnecessary but after Victor finally appeared, things started to pick up.
This story was dark and creepy and I loved it so much.

I'M GOING TO FAIL MY HISTORICAL ARCHEOLOGY CLASS BUT IT'S FINE

Oh no I loved it.
Armand is my gentle son.
