I really need to stop downloading books on KU based on those ads with the one intriguing line. NOT ONCE HAS THIS ENDED WELL FOR ME.
Had the potential to be really cute - but like a lot of magical realism romances the “magic” part doesn’t hold up to any real scrutiny - it was window dressing to create an interesting hook. The plot ended up being too lopsided, way more time should have been spent in the “real” Gemma’s reality. Kinda bummed we saw Gemma fall in love with alternate reality Dax, a different version of him, and no time spent showing us her falling in love with “real” Dax.
I recognized that this book is just not for me at around 40%. It's kind of like Haunting Adeline meets Butcher and Blackbird? In the sense that it is a dark rom com - so stalking minus the noncon? Don't quote me on this, I only made it 40%, but those were the vibes that were vibing. Check other folks' trigger warnings. P.S. I Hated Haunting Adeline, loved B&B.
Good lord does Roni Loren know how to write sexual tension and spice. Bow down to the queen. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Looking at the four stars I gave this book one month later 🤔🤷♀️: I literally do not remember a single thing about this book. It must have been good in the moment, but it did not make a lasting impression.
Man I feel like a grumpy asshole giving such a low rating. I remember Done & Dusted being sparsely written but still enjoyable, super sweet low stakes - like a warm hug.
There were some nice moments here and Ada and Wes were sweeties - but the writing was a hot mess. Super repetitive, bland sentences. A slow middle that made it a bit of a slog to get through. I feel like we kinda lost Wes midway through and he had zero development? Also Chekov’s gun yo- Ada’s ex calls her out of the blue after two years of radio silence and she’s not interested and we never learn why he called?!?! Bad writing 101. Ada didn’t need that call to have her big revelation driving out of Meadowlark. 🤷♀️
I expected the writing in Sage’s sophomore book to be stronger. I’m not kidding - the s3x scene in the epilogue sounded like it was a joke s3x scene, like let’s see how bad we can write one for laughs. “Leave the cowboy hat on.” 🤮🚔
1 star alone for the book’s absolutely gorgeous cover.

I will not suffer through bad books I will not suffer through bad books I will not suffer through bad books.
I absolutely inhaled this book. Yeah the 3rd act conflict came late and I would have loved ONE MORE CHAPTER to really wrap things up. That said - the two epilogues did a good job of showing us things were ok in the long run. Still felt like 5 stars to me. I love Tara DeWitt’s writing and all 3 main characters were just lovely. I really hope she starts to get the recognition she deserves as an author - Savor It was also beautiful. 😍
