Okay this was a ride... the writing style of this was very engaging, a mix between Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn and Sarah J Maas' Crescent City. Though it did dip in the middle, slightly, the start and the end was great. Saeris is a great protagonist and Kingfisher grew on me a lot. That ending, book two will be exciting.
slow-paced

I usually absolutely love cosy low stakes novels but, and I'm sorry, but I found this one BORING, the occasional cute moment but otherwise boring... I'm saddened.

This was a ride! A cute, enjoyable and potentially anxious ride. I have never related so much to a main character. Aila is brilliant written, terrified of her messing up in front of people and scared of social interaction. She works in a zoo. Yeah i love her character development... The romance is greatly done.... I want to live in this world, i want more from this world.
adventurous funny

Scifi but not... this world is really interesting the magic system, yes has obvious inspirations, is surprisingly layered, unique and very interesting. Talasyn and Alaric are wonderfully interesting characters. Their reluctant banter is brilliantly entertaining and they definitely want to be closer to each other but can't. The story and the politics is interesting. I just want more.

I think I like this book but I'm unsure... the characters are amazing and i love how pretty the dragons are, but the writing and plot or are either really slow or needlessly over explanatory. It's like dune in that way. I will read the second book but I'm hoping it's quicker and more focused on the characters than on world building.

This book is FAR better than the first book, which wasn't slow... with Crown of Midnight, it feels like this series has finally started, especially that ending. Finding out who Celaena is and sending her off on an adventure to a completely different continent (which i hope heir of fire has a map for). I absolutely loved Dorian and Celaenas friendship in this book, so nice to see... next to read is the prequel.
dark emotional mysterious sad tense fast-paced

This is a unique book for me. It was brilliant reading a mystery from two sides. Rune and Gideon working against each other, using each other, while falling in love with each other. Edge of seat stuff. And Alex, wonderful musica Alex, complicating things further.... then that ending, sure i guessed the twist, but it's exciting to see what happens.

Brilliant! This is such a gripping story with interesting characters. You really feel for Dania and hate Mazin, the person she once loved, for his betrayal of her. Finding a new friend in Noor and then that twist and the end. To could put this story, and it's occasional Assassin's Creed vibes, down... recommended.
