Captivating throughout it's entirety, even though I had already watched the movie. I was craving more information, and although I didn't get a ton more, it helped fill in the gaps. As they say, the book is definitely better than the movie. I am more or less satisfied, although I still have lingering questions. But much like the way I feel about LOST, they are questions better left up to my own imagination and interpretations. 4 stars.

I forgot how much I disliked Teresa after The Kill Order because I thought it was a cool surprise to have that be her origin story. Remembered as I read the epilogue. I should've remembered earlier, and like Thomas, I should've seen it coming.
It read easy, like fan fic. All your favorites are back. It was great to see them interact even though I knew what lie ahead of them.
I do love this series, even if it took me 4 years to get through The Kill Order. Hopefully there will be a day that I get to share these books with my son. I'm curious who's side he'll pick. Do the ends really justify the means?

Much easier of a read the 2nd time around and I'm glad I finished it this time! The last 1/3 of the book is the good part, but you have to push through to get there.
I must have the extra special edition, as mine came with a Top Secret file following the epilogue that I found to actually be key in connecting the dots. I feel as though Dashner hoped his readers would make an automatic connection between DeeDee and Teresa, but many did not. I know I didn't. The last sentence blew my mind and is the reason for the 3 stars. Knowing this is Teresa's origin story would ruin the surprise but certainly help readers feel more connected to this story's characters.
All in all, I think it has proved this series still garners enough interest from me that I can go read The Fever Code.

I read this in 5 days, maybe more like 6. People have said it's heavy and hard to get through. I didn't have that problem, probably due to the narrator being Jack. 5 days but I feel like I've been reading this for months. In a good way. It snuck up on me, all of it. The escape happened quicker than I imagined, but it was a relief. The first half was harder on me as a mother, but I found Ma much more relatable than I'm sure was intended. The second half gave me a little more insight into how the mind of a child works, which has oddly benefited my relationship with my son in the past few days. I need to formulate more thoughts, as I literally just finished, but wow. I'd like to see the movie, too.

A slow burn of a book...
It took me 2 months to get to a point where I finally wanted to read it every chance I got. It began slow, lots of detail and information (necessary, I know), then when it got really, really good, it blew through events quickly with a real lack of detail when you wanted it the most. But I enjoyed overall, the ending made the slow simmer worth it.
