Very very similar to the movie, so it was kinda anticlimactic... But that's not really the book's fault. A little slow, not much really happens, but I liked the way the stories connected in the last act. The book didn't really convey why Mallory was so into Tom... And the ending... So cheesy but kinda satisfying too
I liked this... But I felt like the summary and what the book was actually about were different. This is part the MC trying to connect with his estranged daughter and part the MC caring for his dying mother. The book blurb make it sound like it's mostly about the daughter, but I found that more to be a side plot... They would bring it up every couple chapters and then leave it for awhile.
I liked the writing, I felt like more could be done with the setting/atmosphere. It had some poignant moments, but the story never got in a good flow for me. Different parts of the plot would appear everywhere. Lessons and moral questions arise for the MC, but never get the attention they need to be fully fleshed out.

I really liked the first half of this, the trans story - I have read so few trans mangas. It was emotional, poignant, and funny (with a pretty happy ending!!) the second half of stories wasn't my favorite, I couldn't find a clear through line and just didn't find them that interesting. The 2 page manga stories were my favorite of that part.

Just boring...there were a few interesting scenes but not a lot happened and the characters were hard to keep track of, beginning was super weird and then it just devolves into a whole different story...I can't recommend the audiobook either, it was emotionless😭
James Tynion is one of my new fave storytellers but I wish this was longer😭super creepy, I love the way all of his stuff is formatted it literally feels like I'm watching dialogue in a movie. But nothing was explained and apparently this is the only one??😞The Closet come back challenge
It ended so abruptly I wanted more!!😭🥹but yeah it was great... Rewatching the movie immediately
Loved it, can't believe I didn't read this sooner. I love real and messy trans stories and I wanna read Casey Pletts other novels to get the trilogy experience! Very important🧡
I liked how mysterious and spooky this was! Not all of it makes a ton of sense and it's definitely slow paced, but the sisters were an interesting dynamic and learning the families history and secrets was worth it. The descriptions of the island and setting were 10/10, I really liked this gritty, disturbing underrated novel🙏🌊
Even better than the first!! I love Erica likeee I have a crush on her🙏also I love the way this is formatted, it literally feels like I'm watching a movie
