This is not the gore-fest, disturbing, disgusting commentary on society book everyone makes it out to be. Had a creepy mood throughout but fell short delivering an actual message. The last line, if you know you know. Probably the best part of the book.

This book will change your life

First five star read of the year! Slightly crazy, unhinged young woman with obsessive female friendships and something bizarre going on is my new favorite genre. Bonus points if it's set in New England, which this one is. I wasn't expecting this one to be as weird and crazy as it was but I enjoyed it so much. Didn't know what was going on for most of it, nothing was explained but I felt like I didn't even need to suspend my disbelief. The writing was sooo good. Would definitely read more from Mona Awad. The only thing I would change is the amount of times they said bunny because it took up half the pages istg. If you don't get this book.... that's the point. That's what made it so good. Don't take it too seriously.

Depressing, but the movie will make you cry more. Easy quick read but read it slow because you'll appreciate the writing. Liked how it was more about not just the gay cowboy love story but more about love as a whole, itself. Thoroughly enjoyed it, very re-readable.

3.5 stars. It's hard to rate this extreme horror genre and I usually end up rating it low but I liked this one. It's gory all the way through with unique kills. I really liked the queer characters especially the devil being gender non-conforming. This is camp.

Funny in the beginning, then started taking itself too seriously the rest of the book, then the epilogue was funny. Not consistent enough, the horror plot is a little random, but a fast and clever read.

2.5 stars rounded up
1. Mr. Harrigan's Phone - this was so close to being creepy and atmospheric but fell short. The scary thing about it was how much I had to think about iPhones. The whole pirate user thing felt like it was going somewhere, then never did. Underwhelming.
2. The Life of Chuck - I liked part 1 of the story and then wasn't as dedicated in part 2. Again, it had a good concept, and I liked what he said about it in the author's note, but it felt like it was going somewhere and then never went back to it. Nothing was explained even at all which made it not that good.
3. If It Bleeds - Sequel to the outsider (?) which I started and never got through, if this is a sign I should go back to it I'm not sure I should take it. This was the longest one and for what. For the first half of the story I genuinely had 0 idea what was going on. The second half was interesting and I liked the suspense and fast-paced of the story. By the end I was just wishing it would be over soon.
4. Rat - I liked how short it was. I liked this story the best. This is the closest to horror, but not there yet. I could see this as a more developed novel/novella and I would have liked it more.
I like Kings horror work best so this just wasn't for me... always good writing and a fun author's note but there's much better short stories by him.
