When “Don’t Be Evil” Fails, Try “Don’t Be Boring”: It’s worked for us since 1958. - From the company handbook
Derek lives and breathes his job, working at LitenVärld, an alternate-reality-Ikea, and living in a shipping container at the back of their parking lot. Until for the first time, he has the temerity to fall slightly ill and take a day off. As incentive not to do that again, he's assigned to a special inventory shift, hunting through the store after hours for defective products. Toy chests with pincers and eye stalks, ambulatory sleeper sofas, killer mutant toilets, that kind of thing. But even the team he's working with is Very Odd -- and then it gets weirder from there.
I loved the first in the LitenVerse, Finna and this might be even better. The two stories stand alone, and there's no character overlap, so this would be a fun place to start. Derek is a great character, initially totally "by the book" but with a lovely journey of self- and world-discovery.
Recommended if you need more weird in your life, you hate capitalism, you're scared of Ikea stores after hours, or you just want a short interesting read.
Can't deal with this level of miscommunication and poor assumptions.
