I greatly enjoyed this book, largely due to the thoughtful research which seems to be off-putting to some other reviewers. Let's not pretend this period of history was particularly favourable to feisty feminists ... I appreciate how many actions we see our heroine struggling with, that'd be done without thinking today (or in a more poorly researched historical novel), due to her being of a particular class/gender/age during the Regency period in Britain.

Thus, the research serves the plot and makes the fantastical feel realistic and grounded. Lady Helen develops confidence and ability throughout this book in a measured way ... no credulity-straining jumps. And the story itself is an excellent page-turner! Looking forward to Book 3.
