Mixed feelings on this one. I liked the narrative flow between early and late events. I was all there for Zoo and her mental state throughout. I liked that we saw from the POV of several other characters, because they could have been horribly one-dimensional otherwise, since all the early story revolves around the contestants as manipulated stereotypes. And at one point I felt a moment of genuine 'turn away from the book for a while' horror.
BUT. I didn't really understand the world's timeline overall, or the scope and mechanics of the disaster and its impact. The little bits of explanation given were muddled in Zoo's thinking and therefore mine, which left me unsatisfied by the end of the book.
I'd mostly recommend it for dystopia completists, but perhaps also people (like me) who read a lot and happen to see it on the shelf somewhere ... it is a solid read.
