A frustrating read! The set-up is good, the characters vivid and interesting --BUT the central pivot of the plot doesn't work for me. I really wanted it to; everyone's feelings and actions are so convincingly described in the Present, that it's a huge let-down that the same accuracy isn't used to connect them with the Past. Worth a read for Streatfeild completists ... otherwise, skip it.

Well-written, with interesting characters, as most Streatfeilds are ... but, whole-heartedly agree with the first reviewer on the overall tone and frustrating outcomes.
