Imagine Alice from Wonderland at 92 -- that's our narrator. I really enjoyed this random, gently surreal story as she is unwillingly moved from her familiar home into a very peculiar group-living situation.

There are stories-within-stories which I quite enjoyed, though would have been happy enough to stay with our main protagonist throughout, and the ending is really nothing you'd have predicted from the start. Very fun read.

Content Notes: there's some racial diversity in the side characters, but quite stereotyped and using out-of-date language. Also fatphobic language and implied paedophilia (unrelated to our heroine).

DID NOT FINISH: 20%

Sadly, just too unrealistic. There didn't seem to be much depth to any of the characters, especially the kids. A fluffy read doesn't have to mean one that's has minimal emotional stakes and where problems are always easily solved. Frustrating!
