I LOVE YOU R.F KUANG. NEW FAVORITE BOOK!
This has to be one of the best fantasy books I have ever read in my entire life. I don't ever read about war (non-fiction, or books heavily inspired by real life war), and I was originally weary because I wasn't entirely convinced with the first Poppy War book but, MY GOD, was this absolutely fantastic. I was on the edge of my seat. There were times when I had full-on anxiety waiting to see what was going to happen to my favorite characters. I am so fully invested in Rin at this point that I'm devastated there's one more book to go.
I fully, 1000%, believe that The Poppy War has all the materials set to be as big as The Hunger Games in terms of like... popularity and intense storytelling. Coming from a HUGE THG fan I saw many parallels between Katniss and Rin during the events of this book. I also believe there was influence from Azula and Katara from Avatar in here too? It shows and I live for it.
Ugh, R.F Kuang's mind amazes me. I wish I could have even a pinky's-length amount the of the talent, drive, creativity, and mindset she does. I love this series to much.

i would've rated this higher, and i thought about it more than once, but with all the moments i did like, there were about 10+ chapters that bored me more.
this isn't a bad novel, but i think the adaptations do this book justice, so much so that the added context doesn't actually do much. but that's just me!

Did not enjoy the plot-twist at the end, and eventually I was over Monique's point of view, but I really enjoyed every other aspect of this book. I loved Daisy Jones and The Six and I love this book for the same reasons. I love the way Taylor Jenkins Reid writes her characters, specifically I love the way she writes celebrities and fame; everything feels so realistic and honest, like these people have actually existed in our lifetime. I want to Google Evelyn right now an watch all her movies just like I wished I could google Daisy Jones and watch her live performances. I would if I could.
