Maybe I'm a little too used to Kristin Hannah's writing at this point after reading two of her previous books but... This was not only a little disappointing in comparison, but also predictable. I'm a fan of Kristin Hannah, so much so that this is my third book of hers that I'm reading this year, so at this point I know how her stories are set up. She's, basically, the queen of angst and trauma porn; this book was no different. Her character already felt sooo familiar. Like, imagine an actor who gets typecast playing in all three of her novels back to back, it felt exactly like that to me.

This is well-written. The story is moving. Kristin Hannah does a great job at the set up and pulling on your heartstrings as per usual, though this could've been maybe 100 pages less?

I blame the fact that this is her most popular book, as well as the fact that I had to wait 3 months to read this on Libby, for making my expectations extremely high.

I will be reading everything else she has to offer, however. Trust!

Technically didn't finish but I read more than halfway and I feel I got the gist. Read spoilers and pretty much guessed the ending anyway.

Had I finished I would've rounded my rating up to 2 stars, but considering I couldn't bare with it I think it's only fair I give it my rare 1 star rating.

So disappointing because The Silent Patient is one of my favorite books of all time.

DID NOT FINISH: 24%

I found out the author is a Zionist about 20% of the way through so I'm not continuing. It was a bit boring anyway and my expectations went from being really high to crashing and burning instantly

R.F Kuang I owe you my life

I would've given this 4 stars but there were so many chapters that felt useless, too long and unnecessary. This thought especially expressed when reading whatever was going on in the very last chapter. Just so overwritten and boring in the grand scheme of story. I found myself saying "Donna Tartt, who fucking cares?"

Also her ability to sprinkle in random bits of racism and racial stereotypes to any POC she writes... Jesus fucking christ.
