Mild spoilers ahead.

I'm sorry, maybe I shouldn't simply pick books up because I enjoy the covers. Had I'd known this would be ROMANTASY I would've never put this on my TBR to begin with. The gothic atmosphere, religious undertones, and mild horror were all very stunning and parts of the story I enjoyed. But the romance KILLED all the momentum. I'm so sick of the, "I'm supposed to HATE you but you're so ATTRACTIVE so I INSTANTLY fall in love with you instead." give me a break.

Not to mention, this forest God creature being this conventionally attractive emo seventeen year old boy golden rings ad freckles is so pathetic, especially in this setting. I understand it's meant to divert expectations of our main character and make her realize the society she's been brought up in is so cult-like and phony but... Please. These tropes man, these tropes.

I can't take it anymore. This is so worthless and boring. I hate to be rude since I know this is the author's debut, but I'm violently over the Ottessa Moshfegh type of novels that keep getting published lately. The only difference is that this one has "vampires". I think that needs to be used loosely because the only vampire is Moses and he does literally fuck all the entire time. They talk, it's boring, they walk around, nothing happens, we learn Noelle is NOT Catholic anymore. Like this cannot be understated. She is NOT Catholic and her FATHER is agnostic. Like for real. SHE'S NOT CATHOLIC ANYMORE!

Fragile Animals has unnecessarily disgusting and long winded scenes that lead to nothing. Low stake slop meant for a very specific demographic, of which I acknowledge I'm not that audience. I need to stop forcing myself to read these kinds of books because they ultimately do nothing for me.

Moby Dyke: An Obsessive Quest To Track Down The Last Remaining Lesbian Bars In America

Krista Burton

The author is so fucking judgy of other queer people it's frustrating the fuck out of me. I could tell from when this began that there would be less about actual lesbian bars and more about the author's unnecessary opinions on... EVERYTHING. I don't care enough about her white, millennial, buzzfeed-like humor to slog through this.

I read other low-rated reviews and I agree with all of them; I learned what to expect from the rest of this and I'm not looking forward to it so DNF.

I would LOVE a book like this from someone else who actually has insight on journalism and interviewing.
