I'm sorry but this novel is so boring. It's interesting to be inside the mind of a Michael Meyers'-like killer but the execution of this concept does not work here. Maybe it's because I don't care about any of these characters, especially the protagonist, in any capacity. Maybe it's because I find slashers more interesting when we know nothing about them. Just a deranged individual set out to kill as many people as possible just because. The mystery of these characters from the point of view of the prey is what really drives me to slasher movies and novels, to be honest.
Not to mention, I've tried reading Jones' other works and I think I've come to the conclusion that his writing just isn't for me. Which is okay!

Sorry. What is the point of this? + The random Asian racism?! I get that these people are supposed to be insufferable but the plot and writing style is taking the cake, really
The writing just isn't for me. I had a hard time following the events of the story and didn't care enough about any of the characters, especially Temple, to march through the rest of the story. It's like the author had a bunch of thoughts and the second another popped into their mind they began frantically writing the scene without any flow or narrative
Just kind of nothing. Didn't care for any of the characters. Equivalent to a poorly made teen horror; fun to watch, not very fun to read
I'm sorry, this is so boring. I understand wanting a low-stakes "cozy" read, and for some readers this is certainly that, but nothing happens. There's not enough of anything to really substitute the lack of high action and tension. I personally don't care to read tedious details about making a coffee or cleaning tables, even if it's in a fantasy setting. Personally, the fantasy is also really lackluster. Occasionally we'll read about a D&D style monster with big teeth and a tail, sure, but that's really it.
I'm disappointed.
I'm disappointed.
This is boring as hell. Not a thriller. Not a horror. "All vibes, no plot" and the vibes are so uninteresting and not worth reading that I had to put it down. I was considering slogging through until the end but it's not worth it.
I read to about half-way through before I truly decided I didn't care. Not even a little. In my opinion, you can't write a "sad girl" vampire novel with a beautiful cover and an interesting title, and then do literally nothing interesting with the concept.
