thoughts right now:
- amazing character development
- loved the references to the movie and the way the author managed to capture the characters so well, getting their original personalities and also expanding upon them
- very exciting plot, especially towards the end! high-stakes bargain with a time limit definitely added some tension
- the narration was fantastic, loved the voices and accents for each person
- overall, very entertaining book!

I expected this book to be good, but it surpassed my expectations and is now officially one of the best books I read in 2022. The Atlas Six is the story of six young adults with extraordinary abilities who are recruited to join the secret Alexandiran Society. I’d describe it as having similar vibes to The Secret History or Babel, but with a dash of Hunger Games and a lot more magic. It was a little slower-paced than I normally enjoy, but the tension and conflict between characters was interesting enough to keep me engaged. And oh, the characters. I loved some of them and hated some of them, but each and every one was perfectly made, with flaws and quirks that made them feel very real. Blake’s writing was also gorgeous and captured the story incredibly.

Absolutely amazing oh my god. The characters were extraordinary (especially Gabe and Lucky) and I want to be a part of their little group so so so bad. The story itself moved a little slowly at times, but overall it was amazingly written and very entertaining. <33

Demon in the Wood, a graphic-novel version of Leigh Bardugo’s novella (same title), gives us a backstory for the Darkling (the main villain in the Shadow and Bone trilogy). Not only is this story very well-written, with amazing characters and a fantastic plot, but the illustrations are also STUNNING. I highly recommend it if you’ve read Shadow and Bone and want to explore more of that world and those characters!

I was really looking forward to this book, and it would have been a very good one… if it had ended about two hundred pages earlier. The Secret History is a fiction book that explores the relationships and conflicts between a group of clever college students, with a little bit of murder and the study of Ancient Greece thrown in for fun. I really enjoyed the author’s writing style, and the beginning of the book was quite intriguing. But all of the characters are pretentious and arrogant, which was kind of the point of the book but made them incredibly annoying to read about. As the story went on, it felt like the main conflict/plot came to an end (or should have come to an end) around page 350. From there, it sort of disintegrates into unrelated nonsense about the characters, that didn’t really have a point and only served to annoy me further. Overall, this book was interesting, and the author’s style of writing was unique and engaging, but The Secret History did not live up to my expectations.
