The only part I didn't like so much
was her coming back to life to have sex. Like I get it I don't wanna die a virgin either but there's more life to live other than sex!
I loved everything else though. No complaints!

I try to power through poetry I don't like because I think reading any and everything can have some sort of creative benefit toward me and my art / writing, but there's an attempt at something here I personally find unsuccessful. And I don't have to put myself through that. There are no rules!

A Little History of Poetry

I read A Very Short Introduction: Poetry and that was a better book. This book basically shows the prominent poets and poems but doesn't give more history and philosophy into poetry-making and the world of what was going when the poetry was made. It does that to an extent but it's mostly analysis of the lines it uses as examples. It's just not the kind of "A history of poetry" book I'm looking for but I would've rated this somewhere around 3.5 stars.

I get it. I get why the girlies are like that. I get it.

One you get past the language barrier, nay, once you embrace the language barrier, you get it. The language is beautiful. The story is juicy. I love hot goss no matter the era. I had a great time and I was inspired to write so you know what? Extra points. What a great book.

I didn't know what to expect when reading this but it is a full fledge intro into the study of poetry. Its' not all that accessible unless you already have a basic understanding of how to study poetry, which I wouldn't say I did even after coming out of AP English in high school, but it's been a few years. I started reading poetry for fun because I was like "whats all the hullabaloo?" and I like it now but this made me realize I don't give poems a full in depth analysis. Sometimes a poem is so good I read it twice or thrice over before closing the book or going to the next page but I hardly look THIS much into a poem, and this is only a very short introduction! Wow. So cool! I love literature!

It's a shame I took so long to start reading comics. This was very fun and I'm excited to see more! I loved the art even when it was gruesome, I loved the storytelling through the text bubbles the same way films use voiceover or j-cuts (even though this might be a comic books standard, I'm new here), and I loved the additional readings in the end!

This book would've been my bible as a child. Just the break down of all the flags when you first open the book, not even the first page, truly made me feral.

As a communist I really appreciate a neutral historical perspective. Naturally, it's easy to lean into your biases and very hard for people to recognize when they're even have them. Unfortunately, the author is so weirdly anti-communist. Well, I shouldn't say weirdly, because being anti-communist is generally how most people are, but the messaging feels very much like you're telling kids "Hey by the way just incase you get any ideas about how cool these flags look I want you to subconsciously remember these people's ideology failed once!" And I wouldn't have focused on this in my review if not for one page where she (the author) paints Britain as the heroes in a country's independence movement (for the nation Qatar). AND there are multiple times where she makes the UN seem like good guys. And then I find out the author (and illustrator) is British! Of course!

Also negative points because there's no mention of Costa Rica and Thailand having almost the same flag!

I appreciated the historical flags with their explanations, part of why the book made me feral. History  of the flags and flags AND a little bit of history about the country / area?! Despite my critiques I WILL be buying this and using it as a coffee table book. I want everyone who ever enters my abode to see such a wonderful book.
