Mr. Berry is expert intertwining the past with the present focusing on an historical person, event or relic and the relevance to present day situations. Book number 9 in Mr. Berry’s Cotton Malone series focuses on Abraham Lincoln and reasons the Civil War was waged in the U.S. In addition to Mr. Lincoln, the founding fathers and the Constitution, the Mormon Church figures prominently in this story.
As usual all is not as it appears with many plot twists back and forth across the Atlantic from the U.S to Europe to keep Malone and company busy. Not Berry’s best work but it should hold the interest of his fans.

Veteran author Jeffery Deaver is not at his finest form in "The Skin Collector'', a much belated sequel to the excellent 1997 "The Bone Collector''. But quadriplegic criminal detective Lincoln Rhyme is still at his best along with sidekick Amelia Sachs. The plot twists and added story lines detract, at least for me, the flow of the story but others may relish he complexity. How does the Watchmaker figure in with this novel? Deaver fans will like the Sherlock Holmes style leaps of thought and deductions Rhyme brings to the story.
