fun read, definitely found it engaging as someone who doesn't read a whole lot of non-fiction. and had some very interesting analysis regarding the social and cultural aspect of ghost stories

real mixed feelings on this one. so first of all, not at all recognizable as a shakespeare retelling tbh. i didn't clock it being king lear at alllll, and sure that play isn't one i'm super familiar with but you would think you'd try to at least make it slightly clearer.
kinda all over the place at times— lotta rushed character arcs, really fun characters but could use more fleshing out, and some scenes did feel very.... stiff.
however i did adoreeee the art style, and this was just a very fun read. maybe not the deepest most complex novel ever, but very entertaining and silly. the twins were so ridiculous, loved them and their comical evilness and hope this series is continued and they show up again. ron and tanya too, like yessss ok oberon and titania we see you (i did clock that reference actually, just not the main retelling of all things lmao)

i wanted so so badly to like this book, and there were good parts, but overall it just fell short of my hopes. dragged on wayyyy too long at points, lissar felt very underdeveloped, and the whole recovery plot just felt so flat most of the time. i liked the prose though, and ossin was charming lol. the writer is good at writing very beautiful imagery, and there were sections that were just very well written but other parts really needed some tightening up or reworking.

solid!! didn't hit me as hard as the spirit bares its teeth, but i do think you can see the author's improvement with more writing experience which is really cool. definitely plan to go read his debut novel, and really looking forward to his future releases :]
