snow's land on top BABYYYYYYYYYYYY
ok but seriously tho this was an amazing prequel. i did get a bit bored in part iv, but tbh i am just a sucker for the lucy gray and snow pairing. i loved the ending, the tension was spaced out nicely, the pacing was great, and this kept me thoroughly entertained.
however, snow wasn't nearly painted enough as a horrible dude, and the pacing for the ending sucked ass.

i did not enjoy this.
this is probably one of the least enjoyable books ive ever read.
the plot was so slow at times, and then would pick up and be super interesting, only to return to being dull.
the main character is abysmally unlikeable, and i could not give two shits about any of the characters.
speaking of characters, i could not tell the difference between them. the main ones? sure. but the minor characters like kyukov? no idea. tbh there were so many characters i couldn't even tell you who was the perpetrator of the crime. or even how the crime played out.
or even really the last 100 pages.
this book was severely missing some editing. some parts were great! like the entire beginning where we get to know sveta, and when fox is first looking for clues. just a lot of this book fell flat.
was originally going to give this 2 stars but tbh the fact i cant even tell you who kidnapped alex, why they did it and how they did it is a bit concerning. also i literally wanted to claw my eyes out reading this.

this was a rollercoaster of a book
firstly, i kind of hate tori?
maybe its because shes a lot like me. self-hating and pessimistic with not many friends, but "happy" about it
she kind of gives off "im trying to hard to be edgy but don't say im being one of those people because then im not unique"
i don't know if this is because that is who tori *is*, or oseman failed at portraying her accurately.
anyways, i kind of enjoyed this book?
after reading loveless, this winter & solitaire, as well as the graphic novels, i really feel like oseman's strengths are in graphic novels. i feel that her writing style is much less enjoyable and translated to full on text, and it needs something extra that graphic novels give it.
i kind of disliked every character in this honestly? they all seemed like caricatures of teenagers. i don't even like the flanderisation of nick & charlie (aka big protective boyfriend & little brother w/ an eating disorder). i know this isn't their book but idk, they feel like completely different characters in this. however, i did enjoy the plot's progression - solitaire itself was a bit dumb ngl, but i did enjoy tori's interactions with Michael. i wish the book expanded on michael a bit more, as he still feels like an enigma.
also does every book ever have to be romance? i think the story would've been great without any romantic hints - not everyone who is sad can be cured by someone else who is sad. idk i feel like it would've been more true to tori's character if her and michael never even had hints of romantic feelings.
it sounds like i hated this book but i promise i didn't. i just am super critical because i love oseman but this wasn't it

oh wow
oh wow oh wow oh wow
i went into this with low expectations. i often find myself not liking classic books not to be "edgy", simply because they arent my taste.
this was an exception.
my god was the characterisation good.
going in knowing this is an allegory for communism was so *chefs kiss*
the slow progression from the uprising to the slow descent into a dictatorship was so brilliant to read.
i really grew to love characters such as clover (ofc the baddie horse shares my name), boxer & snowball (bless up homie), and grew to despise those like napoleon, squeaker & those damn dogs!
chapter 9 actually almost made me mf cry; i got so attached to these animals and that is a pure testament to orwell's incredible writing. even 80 years later it still is poignant & stunning.
having studied the russian revolution & the rise of communism made this book even better ngl, seeing the steady progression from primitive communism under jones to full-blown totalitarian government is so beautiful, especially when you draw parallels to people such as stalin & trotsky.
anyways i understand the hype for this book. time to buy 1984 mwahahahah

this was a very cute little book!
first off, ngl i feel like the tag "LGBT+" is a little misleading - none of the main characters are queer, which is what i was looking for.
this book also kind of gave 'middle school child wanting to read a book that's edgy and above their considered maturity level' which is kinda out of my age range lmao.
i still enjoyed this book tho! sky and rose's relationship blossoming was beautiful to see, and amber coming to terms with her familial situation was also sweet to see.
honestly i didn't get much from maali - i felt like her entire plot/dream was super weak, especially sitting alongside rose's story progression. like seriously we're comparing a crush to literal child pornography? ok. sure.
and sky felt like she really didn't have a plot at all? like ok, it was to get to the poetry slam. but like what was her progression? it entirely focused on rose, and kind of threw sky's intrinsic character to the wayside.
see this sounds like i hate this book but i actually had a great time reading it! there are just some glaring issues (issues for me not as in the actual quality of the book) i cant overlook
this is one of those books im debating even keeping because idk if i'd even read this again. maybe in the distant future. never say never.
