With some distance, I appreciate the story and its ending. The writing flowed well. If I understood Paris better, I would probably have appreciated it more. But it was an excellent concept.

This book was impressive and enjoyable.

The changes in narration, the interwoven nature of the different stories, the world-building decisions, and the challenging concepts all worked together to create a wonderfully unique story. I do wish the ending had been better, but now I'll have to read at least the second book. 

This book was not so much about the author's mother as it was about him. There were some nice thoughts, turns of phrase, and interludes in there. Overall it was reductionist and felt a little pretentious. It was very "I'm not like other authors". Je ne l'aurais pas fini s'il avait été écrit en anglais. Mais comme toute écriture en français, c'est utile de le lire même si je ne l'apprécie pas. 

Yikes. Beautiful writing and great potential, but he's just such a pretentious author. I didn't want to give him my energy. 

Almost made it to my DNF pile, but some of the stories were interesting.
