as I was reading this book I just kept thinking what can go wrong here? it felt like any tiny happiness or good would not last, knowing the author's pretty well after 7 books. the last 200 pages felt very intense. but this book did feel a bit lengthy for no reason. I did feel like I just want this to be over a few times. I also felt some serious/big scenes deserved more detail and emotion than they got. we did get lionel's pov which I wasn't super into but was an interesting idea. with only one book left I'm ready for the end to this series and to move on.

such a good read. I listened to the audiobook and I think that added sooo much. I loved maverick in the hate u give and I love him here too. he seemed so realistic and really jumped off the page.

I did enjoy this book but I felt like I had to read it slowly and take breaks to let it sink in. it could be a bit repetitive. I love the messages great examples that are very clear and easy to connect the dots. she broke everything down very well.

this book was gifted to me by a friend and I really had to push through. in the afterword the author mentions being able to utilize any stray thought in this book and it definitely comes across that way. I'm not big on essays and this felt like essays meets poetry with illustrations thrown in.
Some pieces on anxiety and loneliness did feel very relatable. would recommend this for neurodivergent, children of immigrants, or rain cloud personalities. I think they would resonate a lot more.

this had a lot of explaining jokes that need no explanation and "look at the camera during a movie" moments. a lot of times I was left feeling confused. I liked and dislike the characters at the same time. I really enjoyed uncle earl and wished he had a bigger role!

I liked things and I didn't like things. I would like nico and then he'd say or do something that was a bit much for me. but I do love a morally gray guy so it was hard for me to dislike him all together. some very cute moments. good banter. mild spice.
the overall plot reminded me a lot of 50 shades (I won't spoil it). falls in love super quick and neither character believe the other could love them so it's a slow burn.
overall if you like mafia romances yes I'd recommend it. they're just not top of the list for me, but I wanted to give it a try. I also listened to the audiobook and I think reading would have been better. I'd give this 2.5.

when this book started I felt morrison had a lot of opinions that were different than what we know (or claim) and basics of serial killers. this peaked my interests but I felt she contradicted herself frequently. and there wasn't an epiphany at the end to bring it all together.
still interesting to hear about her interviews and her psychological analysis.
lots of content/trigger warnings.

I loved being able to better understand the perspective of a young black woman. mentions quite a few racial issues and works through them during the book. this felt like a very realistic story. young love cuteness.
plot wise I did guess the antagonist early on which was a bummer.
as a YA totally fine though. recommended on Instagram just a bit too young for me.

this definitely kept my interest but the plot overall was just ok to me. I didn't really like the characters. I do think that was part of the point - just not my jam. I felt sorry for the patient.
