I had a hard time focusing on this one. I think if it wasnt for book club I probably would have DNF'ed. it did give a bit of severance vibes if you liked that show. I think because of the lack of memory it could be hard to connect to the characters or plot.

I really enjoyed this book. the writing was beautiful and one of the best narrators of an audiobook I've listened to. the writing was so interesting compared to the topics discussed. it's emotional and insightful about prison relationships. I am definitely interested in reading more by her.

I agree with others that the beginning of the book is stronger. I was craving more detail and information at times. especially when it came to understanding the immigration process and law. I still felt moved and educated. I especially appreciated the takeaways on the language to use/not use and how all sides of the political system have failed these people.

a book about miscommunication. Just say what you need to and we'd save ourselves. this was more entertaining than I expected (a book club read) but I wish there was an epilogue.

people complained about the confusing dialogue and bickering squirrel vibes. that is true. I liked it however it was different and funny. this book had a lot of characters and I think I would struggle to follow in audio format. I do think a lot of the immortals had similar talking styles and personalities - it could have been intentional but it did feel tedious at times.

this was a very interesting concept. I love the idea of the plot and I did appreciate how inclusive it was. but I think it was a hard task to try and combine all faiths and mythologies into one thing that works together. it could be confusing at first. but it was enjoyable to see how everything is connected.

I really like olivie blake's writing. this wasn't my favorite I have read of hers, but I still liked it and would recommend for someone looking for chaos.

I liked this book in general. it is great for younger audiences. I loved the hunger games and enjoyed those vibes. however it is hard to stradle the fantasy/dystopian/real world line. I think he did the best he could making real world LGBTQ+ issues connect in a fantasy world and I enjoyed the representation. however the nods to fake social media or things like that were just too much and took me out of the book world into real life. but younger kids would eat it up as I never complained about this for harry potter and def see it as an adult.

not sure if I will read the sequel.

I'm on the fence. I understand trying to not be biased and show both sides but the writing style still annoyed me. he is biased (I think) but I felt I was questioning as I read based on things he said. it covers a wide range of ownership types but focuses mostly on big cats, apes, and snakes.

I am biased and don't believe exotics should be allowed. while the curtain was pulled back in some instances im not sure I got everything I wanted out of this book. it wasn't as educational as I hoped and jumped around a lot.
tense slow-paced

really interesting story, terrible writing. this book was so boring. a girl lost at sea, a captain claiming her and her whole family are dead, a pod of whales visits her....I mean need I go on? how did you make this so dull? I am surprised I even finished the book.

just go read an article about what happened.

this was fine. I listened to the audiobook and I think if I had read the physical copy I would not have finished because it is slow and a bit boring at times. (though I think that is their point).

it was interesting to hear a mormon perspective that doesnt seem extremist like the others I have read (ex FLDS sects). but to me this was more about mormonism than polygamy. I would like to read more about polygamy in a non religious or marriage focused situation. I randomly found this at a used book store so it was a gamble anyways.

I was concerned about some language used and why they didn't address the impact of so many children on the world.

it was fine. nothing really wrong with it, just didn't really connect strongly to the characters/story. didn't enjoy the audiobook narrator.
