I really enjoyed this. I appreciated the author's honesty. I thought she was really funny and explained things well. I should have checked content warnings though.

this was fine. I liked the first half, but became less interested as it progressed after that. nothing really wrong with it, it was just fine.

I really liked this and I'm excited to read the second book. it took me a few chapters to get into - learning the new world and adjusting to all the action - but then I flew through it. I kind of knew some of where it was going but not all. it did a good job of having complexity and duality to characters. I'm surprised I enjoyed something so action packed.

I think hunger games fans who enjoy dark fantasy would eat this up.

I think I expected something different going into this, my book club picked it. I liked it more than I expected. I really appreciated all the real world topics interwoven. it felt real and authentic. something was missing to me and I'm not sure what.

update: just met with my book club and the thing I felt I was missing can best be described as coldness. lots of the actions and events felt performative. not a book for me, but not terrible.

I enjoyed this. despite not being neutral myself I appreciate that the author was. my only complaint is that the main suffering was the animals and we learned very little about them specifixally in comparison to the humans throughout. very tragic all around.

I felt similarly to the first one but didn't feel it was worth reading. will just look up what happens in the 3rd book to get answers.  I'm sure this is great for young adults,  just not for me. 

this is my first ali hazelwood and I would definitely read more of her books. I loved the STEM rep and how funny the main female character was. the spice wasn't always for me but that's ok. could be a bit repetitive at times.

I really enjoyed this. it covered a wide range of topics and explained them well and in easily digestible ways. I'm glad I did audio as I think it helped me focus on the content.

this was a really interesting story I had never heard of before. because it covers so many years j wish I had a little more details in the jungle and at the end. but I know it can be hard to remember and that they were setting up a book 2.
