The ease of finding delicious recipes that are vegetarian are endless. I love that this book has such a wide variety of recipes for varying tastes. I would have appreciated more meal recipes, instead of including desserts-- I find that desserts are already meatless. I tried one of the the recipes that cooked pasta-- Well laid out, easy to follow recipe that worked wonderfully.
Gripping. I couldn’t put it down. I have not read the original story, and now I really want to.
The artwork by Emily Carroll adds so much depth to this story. So captivating. It added a heightened level to the storyline. That and the fact art was the one thing that kept Melinda sane during her year, made this a perfect pairing.
It hurts so much that Melinda was so alone. That not even her parents could see that she was suffering. It’s heartbreaking.
I can see how this was a critically acclaimed novel. The topic of rape and its rippling after affects; depression, self-harm, withdrawal. It’s all too real for too many people. I hope it helps give strength and power to those who have been affected by these horrible events, to not feel alone and isolated.

Sometimes you just need a book that isn't too heavy, but still makes you ponder things outside of your own little world, with a tinge of romance, but driven by estrogen alone, and a bit of comfort knowing that there are people out there living life, just like you. This book provides that. Louise Miller crafts a story that has truly believable characters. Nora could be your neighbor, her story could be yours. She shows the flaws that bring depth to them.
The story isn't new.
Guthrie is a small town, on the verge of change. A large corporation is looking to buy and build in the town.
Nora inherited the land that they are looking to buy. She feels like this decision weighs entirely on her. On one hand, she, and her sister, could use the money from the sale, but Nora feels that the big box would destroy the feel of the town
Mix in a a slow building romance, the discovery of a sisters long held feelings about how childhood events shaped them both into who they are, and the difference between being neighborly and knowing your neighbors.
I really enjoyed this book. But I felt like it was a bit rushed, maybe to either meet a deadline or to keep to a page limit.
There were some holes in the story. I get that this is a method of writing. And in many cases, it worked well, but in some instances, I felt that there were introductions that happened, with inadequate tie backs, or hastily wrapped up in the end.

Fun little book with several familiar fairy tale stories with a twist. Cats are all the characters in each of the stories too. Hannah insisted reading this to our kitties at bedtime.
What an immensely tragic story. But invoking of so many emotions and thoughts.
I can see why this book is titled An American Marriage. It starts, pretty much, as most marriages do. With hope and plans of the future. But what happens when 1 1/2 years into the marriage, your husband is falsely accused of rape?
I love that this story is told from multiple points of view, it's very representative to telling the emotions and thoughts of the main players. And this is a complex story. The incarcerated living based on his life prior to being sentenced, but everyone else moves forward with their lives. It makes for a interesting reintroduction when Roy is released.
There section of the book where Roy and Celestial are communicating via letters was a little confusing. There wasn't much indication of how much time had been passing. In addition, it was hard to ascertain whether or not there was more communication, either in person or over the phone, that happened during that time frame. Well it was difficult for me as a reader, it spoke well to Roy's isolation.
This story is so much more than about being racially profiled and unjust prosecution. Those topics are covered deftly, but is much more of these actions have affected Roy, in how it has shaped his life from the beginning. And how these events have altered his relationships.

I am left with several unanswered questions, but I’m okay with that.
A great, mystical story told from multiple viewpoints.
I figured out a big piece of the puzzle over halfway through, but not all of it.
“It’s happened before and it will happen again. There’s nothing you can do to stop it.
Navigating first jobs, first loves, self doubt, changing sibling relationships. This book has it all, but does it in a light flirtatious manner. This book is entirely relateable. I remember having many of the same feelings as Molly. But the book goes beyond that. It shows how there are many kinds of love: Family, same-sex, heterosexual, platonic all with making it be normal and everyday. Which it should be.
I loved the take on Cinderella in this story. In most, because it didn't follow closely to the Disney version. I love, love, love the Disney version, but I would have felt like it was the same old same old if Malinda Lo had stuck to that version.
What a story of hope and changing your life path. Things are not all what they seem... Ash longs to be brought into the fairy life because she believes it will end her days as a servant and bring her closer to the stories her mother told her as a child. But then her relationship and love of Kaisa makes her realize that there is more to be than she had imagined life could hold for her.
