I often don't find that I believe in opposites attract type chemistry, like you find here. But Jada and Donovan are deep, complex characters who feel like interlocking puzzle pieces. I also enjoyed that there wasn't a money/power thing going on- they truly were on an even playing field. Despite a distracting and underdeveloped B-story, I found this book really quite enjoyable!

This is truly starting to get into the meat, well, "meat" of the series and I'm excited for the true debut of Agent Colby, one of the greatest good assholes in the modern canon.

My second favorite volume- which may just mean Toni is my favorite character. I'm so proud of Layman and Guillory. This is the wildest, most insane issue but they stick the landing.

I had forgotten the big, looming inciting incident of Chew, so I'm glad to be reading this now, instead of when I wanted to reread it in 2020. It's a lot. And brutal. But oh so good.

It's always interesting to me that this is the volume that won awards. It's good, don't get me wrong, and the character development is deep and art beautifully grotesque. It's just... Volume 6 exists.

This is where the dance of the Chew series finds its feet. "The quiet man needs to come in from the cold" hits far more forcefully than any espionage in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy did. In part because my dumb dumb brain got what was happening, but also because the creators actually make me CARE.

The tragedy starts to reveal itself here. We start to realize how precious our time is with these characters, especially Miss Olive and Toni. My favorite of the food weirdo powers shows up, the vorsophic, and the space babies. These books are so bizarre and wild, but the world so beautifully moulded, I would accept anything these lunatics told me as truth.

Despite loving this series, and having this on my shelf since its release, this is my first read of volume 11. Olive is finally coming into her own, and I wish there was more of her. But this isn't her story. Tony Chu is about to his heart kicked in the ass- I can feel it. Also, Mason, my big guy- you deserved so much better. The tragedy of his story is Shakespearean.

Despite loving this series, and having this on my shelf since its release, this is my first read of volume 12. Can I be honest? There are endings here that broke my heart, but as a series ending, it didn't stick the landing. It left the door open for more and, as much as I would LOVE more Chew, it would have been best to not just close this door, but lock it and turn out the porch light.
