This was an amazing sequel to the first book! I was nervous seeing others reviews that they didn’t like this book as much as the first but honestly I loved it! I think the story moves a bit slower in this one but I loved getting to know the characters more. Overall I think this is a great duology and would definitely read it again!

I had a feeling this last book would make me cry and WOW was I right. I mean just seeing the pieces come together at the end? Seeing Xie Lian finally realize all the times Hua Cheng has been at his side in the past 800 years?? I cried my eyes out seeing this wrap up. These characters will stay with me forever.

Hey so if you ever just feel like sobbing your eyes out read this book. No like really how can you have me so happy, giggling and kicking my feet over how cute Hua Cheng and Xie Lian are and then to have my heart ripped out and stomped on. And somehow through all that pain this is currently my favorite book in the series.

This one for me started out a little slow and I was kinda confused on where we were going but of course by half way through I was fully invested! It was exciting to see some characters come back around for this book and we got the back story for the Rain Master which I was always really intrigued by. I’m also scared I’m going to get my heart ripped out in the next one 🥲

Hey so we didn’t have to my favs like that at ALL. This book had me crying, giggling and kicking my feet, back to crying in the matter of minutes multiple times!! 

Rebecca has done it again! I lovvveed this book! My one note is I hope we get some more information on the enemy gods that are fighting, by the end you can see that this will be a big plot point while this book it was very much a background thing. Beyond that I loved the setup of this. We have Iris and Roman who are rival journalists both striving to become columnist. Turns out they also have magical type writers and have been writing to each other something that Roman knows but Iris does not. Let me tell you I was eating up every one of those letters okay? Eventually Iris leaves and is drawn to the war front to look for her brother and this is where things start to really pick up. Also the fact that Roman comes after her?! Crying thanks. Overall I thought this story was amazing, Rebecca Ross really knows how to paint the most beautiful and alluring scenes and I love how she writes her characters and their love. I can’t wait to read the next one!

How do these keep getting better?! This book stated with the flashbacks into Xie Lian’s first ascension and WOW did that break my heart. His story is so sad to read because all he wanted to do was help others and save his people and at every turn he was just met with resistance. We also start to see the connection to Hua Cheng and let me tell you, that also had my heart breaking! Why do they both have to have these sad back stories. Once we are back from the flash backs and into the present I was over here giggling and kicking my feet because what do you mean Hua Cheng bought him 3000 lanterns?! I just love all of the little details and things that HC does for XL, I don’t think any other book boyfriend can top him.
