 - Welcome to my new favorite YA fantasy series. THE SUNBEARER TRIALS has it all - intricate worldbuilding, emotional weight, big plot twists, and characters with a range of identities, and it's all done with deep warmth and love.
- Teo and his pals are a wonderful crew, and I had such fun following them through the various trials that took us all around this world. Thomas can write the heck out of both a heart-pounding battle and a heartfelt conversation.

 - HYSTERICAL is a ragescream of a book. Though the synopsis talks about Bassist trying to sort out physical pain, much of the book is about the mental anguish American women experience in everyday life.
- I have some reservations about this book being taken to mean "pain is all in your head" when it comes to unsolvable illnesses. And yet, I also know the physical toll that stress and oppression can take on your body. It's a bit muddled and messy, but isn't life?

 - How on earth does one review a masterpiece like BABEL? Kuang has written a book that is both a page turner and a burn it all down, salt the earth indictment of academia, colonization, patriarchy and more.
- The magic system in BABEL is brilliant, and a perfect parallel to the mechanics of British colonization. The translations, the footnotes, all of it occasionally makes you forget that this is a novel.
- As a white reviewer, I can't even begin to touch on Robin's internal struggles of choosing what path to take as a person of color thrown into the upper levels of whiteness at Babel. The pain and rage of it is laid so bare on the page. And I know I have been the Letty in conversations before. Kuang softens none of it.
- I know I'm not doing this justice. Please seek out reviews by people of color on this book, there is already a deep discourse around it and I'm sure that will continue for a long time.

The Ballad of Perilous Graves

Alex Jennings

DID NOT FINISH: 25%

I think I’d be able to follow this better in print, so I’m DNFing the audiobook and will pick it up again later.

 - There's no reason for HUSBAND MATERIAL to exist, it's about 100 pages too long, and it's and absolute joy.
- I was so happy to sink back into this world: Alex misunderstanding jokes, Luc fumbling every important conversation, Bridget being a hopeless romantic.
- Plus, I didn't see the ending coming until we were upon it; I'll be interested to see what everyone thinks of it!
