Too many characters for me to keep track of. 

Too much home renovation logistics for me. 

This is already getting a bit repetitive, and honestly right now it's just kind of tough to read a book published a few years ago that foreshadows everything that's happening now.

I feel bad DNFing this because it’s very cute. I just keep getting progressively more annoyed at how unlikely it is. Vivi goes to Saigon and IMMEDIATELY runs into the food blogger she idolizes, Lan. And so far Vivi has shown photos of her long lost family to two random shop owners Lan knows and both the owners know the family. Aren’t there like 10 million people in Saigon?

The inciting incident of this book is that Psyche is a therapist who is repeatedly fired from jobs (?) who gets fired from her latest job because she outed a trans client to the client’s parents (?!) and her response is basically “I thought it would be okay in this case” (??!!) and then all of that is tossed aside and not really revisited again as far as I can tell. 

Also, there doesn’t seem to be a clear reason why Eros brought Psyche to her. Psyche seems to have zero questions or concerns about getting a weird invite out of the blue to a god orgy where she participates in a ritual she doesn’t know the purpose of. 

The people Psyche confides in already know all about these god parties, and she is also more than once able to immediately find a book that has the exact information she needs about the gods. But also the gods are a secret from the human world? Maybe? Unclear, because Eros mainly just speaks poetically about love and fire and doesn’t have much of a personality. 

The premise doesn’t make sense. Chelsea needs to rent her house to pay property taxes, and I guess one week of Ramona AirBnBing it will pay whatever that is for a beachfront house in Malibu? But also she’s negotiated to go stay in Ramona’s Chicago condo…for free? 

But I stopped when Ramona’s best friend - a man - just lets himself into Ramona’s condo KNOWING she is away and a guest is staying there. 

Finally, this book is two hetero romances but the cover is just the two women, making it look like a sapphic romance. 

This is a clever modern retelling, but at their meet cute both of them said weirdly racist things to each other and it was basically ignored?? Also why is everyone so sure they're going to find a man at a party for a new condo building?

Couldn’t track who was who and how they were related. 

We went from “I have concerns about him being a violent drunk” to “he can stay at my house after we go drinking together” much too quickly for me. 

I don’t think I can hang with the chaotic stream of consciousness.
