- I love when YA gets deep into complicated feelings, and DON’T LET IT BREAK YOUR HEART is a stellar example of it.
- Like, yeah, what do you do when your soulmate isn’t someone you’re attracted to? Let’s get into it! And make some mistakes along the way because we’re teenagers!
- This book also covers some more “normal” (unfortunately) hard stuff like bullying and outing. But it’s also filled with beauty and butterflies and deep love of many kinds.

- THE SECRET SONG OF SHELBY REY sounds at first like a magical adventure, but hidden inside is a story of poverty, addiction, and the mental health system.
- I loved this idea that Shelby could see to the truth of a person just by touching them, and Lacko showed us how equally amazing and terrible that could be.
- Shelby gets kicked around a lot in this story, especially by the men in her life. But I never stopped rooting for her to begin loving herself, and for those around her to see her light.

- While I’m sad that HERS FOR THE WEEKEND is the last of the Carrigan’s Christmasland series, I’m pumped that we got a fake dating book, and with Tara, no less.
- While I loved the slow build of Tara and Holly’s relationship, this book is really about Tara’s relationships with her friends. She’s been absent from their lives for awhile and is reintegrating, while learning that she doesn’t need to prove her worth as a friend.
