i read this book a really, really long time ago. i was probably twelve or thirteen and my mum's friend lent me her copy, because she thought i would like it.

i don't remember much, but i remember i did like it—at least most of it, anyway. i hated the ending and i hated most characters, but i liked the writing and i liked the magic.

nowadays, i have no idea whatsoever if i would still like it. i don't intend to reread, but i realised i'd never added it to goodreads, so this is mostly for my peace of mind.

it seems i am incapable of not falling in love with everything victoria schwab writes

i know this train left a long time ago and that no one even remembers this series anymore, but i was talking about it with a friend the other day and i just gotta say that, while the whole series sucks for all the reasons stated in other reviews, i would give it 4.5 stars if i were rating the brazilian translation. unfortunately the quality decreased so badly that the last book would retain a 2 star rating for both original and translated books. it's really a shame that Livia de Almeida wasn't the one who translated the rest of the series, because she turned an annoying and overall stupid story into a very appealing and entertaining book, to the point that i continued to read it for other three books, both in english and in portuguese, just to see if the quality returned.
it didn't.

this was the year i fell in love with victoria schwab’s writing and what a way to end it right

it was a bit slow to start and the writing gets some used to. i kept thinking, “what is all the hype about? i’m lost. i have no idea what’s going on.”

then the 20% mark hit and i devoured this book in less than two days. granted, i was on the beach with nothing else to do, but still—that’s 400 pages. it’s that addictive. what a ride. what a fucking ending.

(@jay kristoff, please stop killing me faves)
