Victoria Shwab is possibly the most creative writer I’ve met the past few years. Everything that comes out of her mind has such an original flair that I can only wonder at what she will do next.
.
“This Savage Song” bursts with this creativity. Its setting—a megacity at war, haunted by monsters—give Shwab a giant playground to explore her ideas. Add amazing, memorable, unique characters to that and you get one of the best books
I’ve read this year.
.
I don’t want to give much away because I think this book is best experienced without knowing much, but if you like amazing characters and urban fantasy, I’m sure you will love this.

Closer to 3.5, but half a star goes to the end.

To quote a very wise man called Jake Peralta: “Guess who got murdered!”

Proper review to come.

this book destroyed me

i’ve never hated and loved the ending so equally much

it had its ups and down, but i cannot honestly say that i enjoyed reading this book.

this was such a good book. good characters, good plot, good worldbuilding. i loved the dragons (i always love the dragons). it’s violent and it’s not afraid to pull punches, which is sometimes lacking in YA fantasy, and i even liked the romance (if you know me, you know i almost never like the romance).

the pacing felt a bit too fast at times—some scenes would have had more impact if they had taken more than a couple of pages—and, because i’m a baby, i refuse to accept one particular character’s death, but those are the only reasons it’s not 5 stars.

otherwise—really, really good book.

I swear I'd read this book before, but I must have forgotten to add it to Goodreads. As usual.

Anyway, I reread it this past week and it's just as good as the first time and then I finished the series and I am DYING

Someone come talk to me about how Lila is the baddest badass to ever badass
