jsyk i read the entire trilogy in three days. that's over 1500 pages. and it wasn't enough
why did it take me so long to read this series. i can't believe victoria schwab has been written books perfectly tailored to my tastes for years and i'm just discovering most of them now. the characters. the writing. the plot. the magic. i love it all.
tl;dr i've a new favourite author

i'm buddy reading Harry Potter with my mum. is she awesome or what?
also, even though she's watched the films many (many) ((many)) times with me (mum i love you), she's never read the books, so it's just an all-round awesome experience for all.
my verdict: it's the 928th time i've read it. it's just as good as the first time
hers: "this is so much better than the film! also the translation isn't the best, is it?"
no, mum, the brazilian translation of harry potter is far from the best, thank you so much for prompting me, now listen to me whine about it for seven straight hours.

i'm buddy reading Harry Potter with my mother. it's my 928491th reread. it's her first after watching the films 928491 times with me. here's what we thought about book 1.
my verdict: i would not have followed the spiders. also, my least favourite book in the series is still better than most of the books i've read my entire life. who would've thought (spoiler alert: everyone)
mum's: "i would not have followed the spiders. i love hagrid. draco malfoy's something else, isn't he?"
let's see if i can convert her into a drarry shipper until the end of the series. also, she complained about the brazilian translation in this one too. granted, it's even worse than book one.
(so you have an idea, the translator decided Hermione was difficult for kiddos to say and shortened it to Mione. all. the. fucking. time. but she deemed it cute to make harry into a seer (clearly already thinking about the next book) by leaving out the very sentence that leads him to figure Myrtle was the one who died when the chambers was first opened)

this is good. really really good. Harry Potter levels of good? i guess we will see. it has the magic, it has the whimsy, it has the adventure, it has the distinct characters. i already love Morrigan with all my heart (i did it pretty much from the first chapter, to be honest).
i don’t want to wait a whole year for book 2 😭

this was everything i didn’t know i needed
i missed these characters so much and now i’m going to miss them even more until we get the Dreamer Trilogy
Opal’s POV is delightful, btw, and i hope we get more from her in the trilogy

this was SO worth the hype
i’ve been waiting for this book since it first made be headlines with a record publishing deal. when i first got it in my hands, i wanted to devour all the 500+ pages as fast as i could. life and work got in the way, though, and i’m glad for that. i actually got to appreciate the story better this way, and it was super duper awesome.
not only is the world-building one of the best i’ve come across in YA fantasy, but everything the story stands for—its political message amid magic rituals and horned African felines—is timely and powerful. i’m neither American nor Black, but i could feel—and i’ve seen—what this book means to so many people.
i can’t wait to see what Tomi Adeyemi has in store for us ❤️
(sidenote: Zélie and Amari had way more chemistry than any of the het ships. not that i minded them, but just saying)
