4.5-4.75 stars rounded up! I agree with other reviews that this gives off Neil Gaiman vibes, making it a perfectly spooky middle grade read. Evie went through a traumatic experience and as a result, she really only has her aunt in her life. The family love aspect was so genuine and pure. The clackity was incredibly eerie and the quest it gave her was so fun but unsettling. The imagery of the ghosts gave me chills. I fell in love with this story!!

Wendy Webb does an excellent job with her twists because wow. Just wow. First off, this has *some* paranormal undertones, but it's not a haunting quite like you think. The characters are well developed and their backstories are so unique and serves a purpose for the ultimate ending. The twist...my heart shattered. I cried. I was heartbroken and shocked. But ooohh, was it good.

Gothic vampire story that may be a little gay? Absolutely I will read. Anne Rice did an amazing job with the storytelling, characters, and the imagery. I was captivated by the narrator's voice immediately.

I enjoy found footage horror movies & was really excited to read a found footage book. I did like the format, it was easy to read and get into the story, however, I think this would have been more fun for me had I listened to the audiobook. A lot of the characters and story got lost for me and that made it lose its spooky factor. When something would happen my reaction was "oh this is going on now?" It just didn't appeal to me like I had hoped.

I'm both disappointed but surprised with this one. This is the third book I've read by this author and this is the best one I've read. I was SO excited for this. A Japanese spider demon? Historical elements? Absolutely, sounds like a great horror time. I just...wanted more. The spider demon wasn't that terrifying (although the deaths actually did give me chills) and I felt incredibly bored. It had such a good premise but failed on the delivery.

This was a fun, cute, and short story about these kids learning about Halloween while on the search for one of their friends. It was interesting that witches, druids, and mummies were brought up as it gave me some Halloween nostalgia. It's the perfect book to get you into the spooky season vibe.
