I love Dusti's stories and this one was such a beautiful and heart warming story of making a difference. I loved our characters and the plotline and I especially loved the messages within the story. Definitely a great book for middle grade and adults.
I enjoyed the drama and thrill of this but it still felt flat. The action wasn't as good as I was hoping for, and I wasn't the biggest fan of the dual POV and timelines. I think this could have used some ironing out. They being said, I did enjoy the twists and I think it still made for a decent story.
While I was attracted to this story because of its eeriness it didn't perform how I hoped. It was rough...there wasn't enough information on, well, anything. I didn't feel connected or interested in anything. The dialogue and transitions were a bit disjointed and jarring as well. This definitely needed many more rounds of editing.
Victoria is wonderful with how they write their stories. The details are rich and immersive but not overwhelming, making it super easy to get to know the characters and the town/mystery. I thought the kids were great, definitely my favorites. I also loved the holiday vibes.
This was such a lyrical and beautifully written story, I fell in love immediately. The story/message was also incredibly impactful and important, especially so for younger readers. Normally, I don't like this writing style but it flowed really well.
This was so much fun. I know it's a retelling, but I've never read the original so I can't compare it, however, it was so magical. This was such a lovely world with such lovely people and I found myself transported by this story.
This was imaginative, sweet, cozy, and whimsical. The art was gorgeous, the descriptions of the nature and animals were lovely, and this was such a dreamy tale. There was also an important message embedded into the story, about the importance of the natural world and how we're slowly losing it. I wanted to join the hidden folk and save the ecosystems when reading this.
I have a love-hate relationship with the descriptors in this book. Part of the descriptions are vivid and lovely and does a fantastic job of bringing the world to life...on the other hand it gets to be a bit much when our main character describes things like paint to no end. Some of the dialogue also felt a bit... disjointed. However, I loved the idea of mystery with an orchard and cider and some suspicious small town people. Descriptors and some dialogue aside, I thought it was enjoyable. 3.5-3.75 stars for me.
I thought the aspect of a mystery with a home reno was interesting. While I liked the mystery, it felt a bit obvious after awhile of who it was and I was surprised that our main character didn't catch onto them faster. The thought process was a little odd. Overall it was a quick and fun read.
I didn't realize this was book 9 in a series but I'm thankful it was pretty easy to catch on quickly and learn the characters and dynamics. I thought the psychic fair was fun and I thought our main character was a pretty good sleuth. It took me a minute to figure out the case and the clues were fun to put together.
