I really liked it !
This is very interesting and intriguing.
I just thought it was a bit slow at times, and the end felt a little flat for me, even though it left me with so many questions about everything. I’m excited lo learn more about the powers and Omega Point.
I’m looking forward to read the second book in the series, [b:Unravel Me|18089977|Unravel Me (Shatter Me, #2)|Tahereh Mafi|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1372042401l/18089977._SX50_.jpg|18276967] !

Well, I liked this second book way more than the first one.
I liked the way Juliette slowly discovers herself, her abilities.
At times, she frustrated me a little. But the thing is, I understand her worries, her doubts. I thought she was a little bit annoying, especially in the first third of the book. Then, she got over herself and that was great.
Adam is still « meh » for me. Just like with the first book, he leaves me indifferent. He’s a fine young man for sure, devoted and hopelessly in love with Juliette. But there’s something I can’t quite point at that doesn't make me love him.
The one that has been a revelation for me was Kenji, who quickly became my favorite character. Behind the laughs, jokes and his kinda cocky comments, he’s incredible. I just love him: the way he talks, sees the world, everything.
Anderson was a surprise too. He's cruel, and he doesn't try to hide it or minimize it. He's an interesting character and I'm looking forward to seeing more of him.
I also loved every time Warner was in scenes. Warner is a really dark, charismatic character, but it's like he has this tiny crack in this tough shell that only Juliette will ever be able to see, despite everything he did. He's incredibly interesting. That man captured my heart. Oops, sorry.
This book got me speechless multiple times: that big plot twist (kinda saw this one coming but it sounded more like a crazy theory than actually the truth), and THE END ! WHAT IS HAPPENING !?
Overall, I really liked it. I liked the development of the characters, the way the story was constructed and build up. The end left me with so many questions and I cannot wait to read Ignite Me.

Short, but interesting and action packed.
A very quick read.
I'm not a huge Adam fan, and for a moment, I thought that I will not like this novella because it revolved around him. But I guess I was wrong, because I liked it.
Even though the way he thinks of Juliette as a fragile and scared little girl is getting on my nerves a little, I was happy to learn more about Adam, especially his relationship with James.
I really liked James in the books, and seeing more of him and his relationship with his big brother in this novella was refreshing.
I also loved seeing Kenji ; he's one of my favorite characters.
I have to say that I got scared for a moment, thinking thatJames had died during the bombing (it would have broke my heart if that had happened). The fact that it opened Adam's eyes on his situation, the way Juliette almost became more important than James for a tiny single moment, was really interesting to read.
I liked the end too, aftermath of what happened. It was interesting to see how they coped with that situation.
Overall, it was good. I liked it. -0.25 just because the end felt a bit rushed, and I wanted to see Anderson suffer way more.
But it was AMAZING.
So much better than the first two books.
I love seeing Juliette maturing and realize that she doesn’t have to be fragile. She’s the opposite of fragile. I loved seeing the development of Warner. Kenji is the best friend I wish I had.
And Adam... well, it’s Adam. I’m glad they realize that he was weighing Juliette down. That’s what I didn’t like about him.
I would have love to see Warner and James interacting way more, and see how the new brotherly bond is going to be developed. Maybe in the new book ?
Overall, it was such a good read. I had an amazing time.

Restore Me was a captivating and really interesting book, and I enjoyed it a lot. It was a great book, with some good things, some mind-blowing things, but also some others that, unfortunately, were a disappointment, or didn't meet my expectations.
Also, quick disclaimer: there will be SPOILERS of the previous books! If you haven’t read them, don’t go any further. Thank you :)
Tahereh Mafi's writing is fluid, easy to read, and the way the sentences are cut sometimes makes the reading even more dynamic in my opinion. It was a fast read.
I also really like the balance between Juliette's and Warner's point of view. It brought a whole different story dynamic and I really enjoyed that.
• The characters.
Tahereh Mafi has really interesting characters. I love some of them more than others, like everyone else, but that doesn't mean they are not interesting to me.
The opening scene with Juliette, Kenji and Warner was, in my opinion, hilarious.
I can’t help but find Warner so much more interesting and complex than Juliette, so of course I liked his parts better. But boy, that man is sad. So sad. I just wanted to hug him. And I understand that grief he feels. He’s allowed to feel it. There’s nothing wrong about that at all.
Juliette, on the other hand, was back to her Shatter Me/Unravel Me self and… well, that’s not my favorite Juliette. Where is the confident woman from Ignite Me? Don’t get me wrong, I totally understand her doubts and everything but it’s been only two weeks since she took over. Rome wasn't built in a day, and even then, it was only a city. I cannot start to imagine what it would be like to give another shape to an entire continent.
Also, I’m so happy that it wasn't easy. Ruling an entire country—hell, a freaking continent— is not an easy task. DUH. And even Warner, who has been raised for this, never wanted that responsibility.
But I still really liked her. She's annoying sometimes, she makes mistakes, she whines, she wants to be free, but is stuck in this impossible position for someone so young and so new to all of this. And in a way, she's also so relatable. She's not an adult, she never had that much responsibility. It's like having to run a freaking marathon all of a sudden, when you didn't even know that you could walk (and even less being able to). She was thrown in something so much bigger than her.
Kenji. Kenji is my favorite character. An amazing friend, an even more amazing person. He deserves love and happiness. He stayed the exact same, if not even more fantastic, and I love him. He’s this breath of fresh air in this awful world, this sliver of light in the dark. He’s everything and I CANNOT WAIT FOR HIS NOVELLA.
• The story and the many plot-twists.
But what I adored was all the revelations. They just blew my mind with each new sentences.
Juliette’s past, her family, everything. I kept being in awe every time something new was explained. And I loved it!
First of all, she has a sister. A sister who's still being tortured after 12 years. Turns out she also has been adopted, and her biological parents aren't nice people at all. And they're both supreme commanders? Why all the supremes are crazy?
But then, THAT ENDING. It was too much for my little heart.
Why Juliette's parents act like they're the perfect little family? What happened with the team being emprisonned? Was Juliette—again—just a pawn in something? Was her breakdown at the symposium somehow planned by the other supremes?
Adam and Juliette knew each other when they were children? They're in A PICTURE TOGETHER! But why doesn’t he remember? Did is Dad wiped his memories too? And why Nazeera is the only one who seem to recognize Juliette?
Argh... so many questions, once again!
• Other things I loved.
- Kenji/Warner:
I need more of them together. They’re everything to me right now.
- Warner/Adam:
That was the surprise of this book. The way they tried to come around the idea that they are related, that they’re brothers. I loved the little scenes we had and I honestly wanted more. Two people who hated each other, wanted the other dead (hell, try to kill the other), actually related. It’s an interesting dynamic and I hope I will see more of them in the 5th installment.
I'm also including James here too, because I'm here for them three and I want them to be a family—a weird and dysfunctional one, maybe—, but a family nonetheless. I love the scenes with James and Warner, James and Adam and Adam and Warner (in this book). I'm sure they can make this work.
- Adam:
I appreciated him apologizing for his weird and annoying behavior in the previous books. Like everyone else, he’s been through a lot. They all have different story and different ways to cope with their pasts. His was just plain wrong and I’m glad he realized that.
- The new characters, and especially Nazeera:
More powerful women? YES PLEASE! And I can't get this idea out of my head that Haider also has some kind of powers too. And I'm curious to see how his relationship with Warner will be developed.
- Juliette and Nazeera:
YES YES YES. I love women supporting each other and I hope that's the kind of friendship I'm going to see!
- Juliette's new power:
WHAT!?
I’m still so lost in this world, though we got a bit more informations than in the last books in my opinion. Silly me didn’t understand that in killing Anderson in Ignite Me, Juliette became the supreme commander of an entire continent. I thought she was just like the president of the US. Now, I can picture it a bit better.
• Absence of older characters, or them being super weird after being so supportive.
(long name for a tiny part, sorry!)
- Castle.
Do I need to say more? I didn't like him in this book. He was the opposite of what I imagined him to be and it was weird.
- Where are the other characters from the previous books? Why not use them a bit more (especially to end up killing them in the end. I kinda felt nothing for them, because they sort of disappeared throughout the entire book...).
- Adam and James disappeared too, except for a scene here and there. Like I keep saying, I’m not a huge fan of Adam. But after Ignite Me, I kinda expected to see him more, building his relationship, either with Warner, Kenji, try to be friendly to Juliette or start something new with Alia (I was rooting for them at the end of Ignite Me but I guess it’s too late now. Maybe Lena will be the one for him, who knows).
• Feelings, feelings, feelings.
- It was a tad too feelings-focused. I guess I wanted more action, more Juliette commanding and ruling. Maybe see more concrete, tangible actions, instead of the behind the scenes. I loved Ignite Me so much that I must have raised my expectations a little too much.
- And that scene with drunk!Juliette made me badly cringe.
Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot. It was not perfect (the beginning was bit slow for me) but it was a quick, gripping and really interesting read.
Now, I need answers to my questions!

I’ve finished it a couple of days ago (edit: well now it's 'months' because apparently I just found this which means I forgot to post it before... oops) and while reading, I was hooked and shook and finished it really fast.
But putting it down, I couldn’t pinpoint what didn’t produce this wow factor.
Nonetheless, this book was good. It was enthralling, captivating, and putting it down was impossible for me.
Content & trigger warnings: child abuse, violence, torture.
The three point of views were interesting, all meshed with flashbacks. Kenji’s pov served mainly as an anchor in the present, and the aftermath of the symposium, while Juliette’s and Warner’s were more flashbacks for the major part of the story. I like those flashbacks: it was interesting to see how many times both characters have met in the past, and how they felt.
I do have to admit that Kenji's pov felt a bit redundant if you've read [b:Shadow Me|40863452|Shadow Me (Shatter Me, #4.5)|Tahereh Mafi|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1539276186l/40863452._SX50_.jpg|66738624] right before starting this one. But I love Kenji, so it was okay.
What I personally didn’t like is the proposal thingy. Let me tell you first that I LOVE Warner and Juliette. I love them as individuals and as a couple. Warner loves with an intensity that’s beautiful but also kind of scary, and there’s no denying that Juliette and Warner could literally die for each other, if that means the other is safe. However, I don’t think the proposal had its place in this book. It made the ending weird for me. I'm glad it didn't end on a cliffhanger, but it was way too good to be true and that felt way too different from the tone of the entire book.
For me, it really felt like it didn't belong here, whether it was plot wise or even writing wise.
Also, despite the fact that there was a lot more action in this book than the previous ones, nothing really happened?! We had plot-twists —which, by the way, some of them blew my mind!— a lot of info dumping as well but other than that, nothing. I don't really trust Castle's daughter too. I need more infos on her, this place/sanctuary they're in, and how they managed to stay hidden for so long. Like I said: there are some things to good to be true and I'm now always suspicious of everything and everyone.
I guess it wasn’t really Defy Me, but Rescue Me haha.
Jokes aside, I had a really good time reading this book.
From the end of Restore Me, I did expect way more than what we got. I’m still waiting for Anderson to get his head chopped off, for James to realize that Warner is also his brother (I think he suspects something, or at least knows Adam is hiding something from him), and for everyone to be happy. I do hope Anderson never finds out his own offspring has abilities (especially James, who can heal super fast and therefore, the twins blood won’t be of any use anymore for Anderson because he’ll have a new pet project). All three of his children have three amazing powers, that will allow him to be one of the most powerful beings, if he ever manages to get control of them.
I'm now kind of scared for the last installment. I hope he'll get what's coming for him, and more.
Side note: Anderson being hated by literally everyone is so funny!
Evie and Max are awful. Evie is the incarnation of evil and I didn’t know which one I hated more between her and Anderson. Honestly. Emmaline has been suffering for years and years and it is breaking my heart. The world: PHEWWW I DID NOT EXPECT THAT AT ALL! I don’t even know how she’s still alive. My poor little heart felt her pain.
In conclusion, I liked it a lot. Of course there are some things that bothered me but I had a really great time reading this book. I cannot wait to see how the story will be wrapped up.
My pick for the Potions class - next ingredient: sequel
