Horrible, I read this over ten years ago but I remember how bad it was.

Not really my style of horror story telling, nothing about this was really creepy and I feel the that "monsters" were not scary enough and read more like a goosebumps book (actually goosebumps books might be creepier than this).

I loved the atmosphere in the first short story, but the monsters were flat and not scary.
The second story was just weird to me, not scary at all, just weird. I'm unsure how it qualifies as horror, just seemed kind of random?
The third story was actually my favorite, I like the atmosphere of this one and over feeling of dread I felt for the character as he slipped slowly into "madness, but once again the monster was not scary.

Not feeling the whole "white ally savior" thing, the love story was not it, and don't even get me started on the whole forgiving racist White people thing. I would give this author another try, but this book was not it. Seems like it's a book written for non Black people. I would skip this one.

I really enjoyed this book! I love the folktale aspects, the characters were well rounded and full and it kept me entertained and laughing the whole way through!

This is such a sweet little read.

I loved everything about this book. Although the father character is heavily flawed, I am not taking points away from my review bc the lack of redemption in his character is overpowered by the overall feeling of hope and love in the rest of the book.

The last scene with Chidera and the tree actually had me teary eyed sitting in my car reading this on my lunch break.

Overall this is a really sweet read!

There were some real gems in the collection. Like with any anthology not all the stories were for me, but I enjoyed majority of them!

This book was really cute and made me realize that I need to read more middle grade books because I enjoyed this so much! I like that characters are flawed while still being likable and the overall message of the book.
