The Dead Take the A Train

Dnf.
The cover art is perfection!

Other than the that, the main character is unlikable and, so far, flat.

The world building is severely lacking, literally nothing was explained.

There are commas missing, which makes reading hard to get into, and the writing is choppy and not my cup of tea.

Not interested in pushing myself to read this when it was a random borrow from the library and it's not giving me what I need.

DNF - This book is written in a style that   can't quite get in to.

The pov seems strange, or maybe it's the way the thoughts and dialogue is written in the 3rd person pov that is throwing me off.

Something about it is not quite catching my interest and is not written in a way that keeps in the storyline.

On top of that "Black" was not capitalized when talking about a Black person.

Has this author ever met a middle grader??

Why do these children speak like geriatric millennials or young gen x-er's??

Very hard to get into when a bunch of middle schoolers are speaking like slightly out of touch 30 year olds. Yikes.

Also, the dialogue, the plot, the situations, everything feels like a very badly written Nickelodeon children's show episode.

I love middle grade novels, this is one is not it, do not recommend.

This book is very repetitive, I could not fathom sitting through nine more hours of this. I wish it would just get to the point. It definitely could be way shorter. Does not need to be 14 hours. The first 4 hours could have been condensed into 1 hour.

I don't think this style of writing is for me. I didn't dislike it, but I also can't fully get into it.

There are a lot of characters and I find myself getting confused. The timeliness of the wanderer is also confusing.

I'm not interested enough in the story to push through.

I was super excited for this one and it had been on my TBR for a long time, unfortunately it was not what I was expecting. I found Mama Ruby super strange and alarming as a character. I did not enjoy the style of writing or dialogue either. This was not one I could push myself to read.

I read the first two stories in this collection and I found them bizarre and pointless?

I literally had to re-read the synopsis a couple of times because I kept trying to figure out what this collection is about. I did not like the writing style, the characters, or the plot in either story I read.

Since this one is a library borrow I am just going to DNF this one and move on to books that I actually enjoy.

I love short story collections, but this one was not it.

Written very well but I wish there weren't so many points of view. The amount of hate I have for majority of these characters is astronomical. I think it is an important story to be told but I cannot finish the book.
I wish we only had Samuel & Isaiah point of view.
